It’s always more fun buying a new ski jacket, but quality ski pants are just as important. If you’ve already read my review of the Patagonia Men’s Primo Jacket, then you know that I love that jacket. Well, I also love these pants! They’re one of the best pair of super high-quality 3-Layer GORE-TEX® Performance Shell nylon pants you’re going to find anywhere.
Patagonia clearly knows how to make killer outerwear, and these Primos are some of the most breathable waterproof pants available. I am a huge advocate of finding the right cut when it comes to any of the ski outerwear I use. It really makes a huge difference when you’re on the hill. It’s no fun to have bunching, drafts, snow intrusions or other undesirable problems when you’re on the hill. These pants are cut perfectly for those of us that want a baggier fit that performs and also looks cool. These do not make you look like you’re about to go ice climbing.
I’m also a huge fan of the Primo’s articulated knees. These pants adjust with you while skiing and you will never have an issue of the legs riding up when you bend your knees. I still can’t believe how many companies continue to get this wrong. Patagonia clearly knows how to make things right.
Other features that are nice are the slim watertight coated zippers on the pockets and vents which reduces bulk, the extra nice scuff guards on the inside of the legs and bottom hems, the thigh cargo pocket for easy stowage and the external thigh vents for dumping heat quickly.
I highly recommend throwing down for these pants and the Primo jacket if you can afford them (they’re definitely not cheap) so that you have a great outerwear setup that will last you many ski seasons. Bombproof is exactly what the Primo gear is. I highly recommend these pants.
