Outdoor Research Men's Igneo Pant Review

The Igneo pant by Outdoor Research is a basic outer layer, perfect for everyday on the hill. They are simple with everything you need and nothing you don’t. They have a comfortable, baggy fit by design. OR call’s it “relaxed,” so there’s no need to order up a size if you prefer a looser fit to you outerwear. I’m on the taller/skinner side and a Medium was perfect and paired well with the large Vanguard jacket.

The Igneo pant has several features that make it appealing, including weather resistant zippers, metal loop for your ski pass, and reinforced cuffs. The zippers are the smaller type with a protective trim. The ring is conveniently located on the front belt loop, making it easy to tie off your ski pass and just stick it in your pocket. And I personally like the cuffs because of their basic design: no extra clips, hooks, buttons or zippers to get in the way - just a lighter mesh material on the inside with dense elastic cuff that fits snugly around your boot. They also have a slightly denser trim around the bottom so the cuffs don’t immediately wear out under you heel.  The basic design is also nice when you don’t have your boots on yet and you want to tuck the bottom of the pant into elastic cuff so you aren’t walking all over them.

The Igneo pant blends comfort and style and is great for a day at the resort. The fabric doesn’t seem like it is going to withstand a ton of abuse, so for more serious expeditions you might be better off spending more money on a more tech material. But these are great for the chairlift and sidecounty. They are medium warmth with vents on the inner leg for hiking. I really like the “brick” color  - it’s more crimson than brown.
