    Ankle/Boot pain!!!!!!!!!!!

The scenario: I have a brand new pair of Lange AC9's, the first 8 days on them were like a dream, great control, no pain at all.

On day #9, halfway through the day I notice some pressure right on the inside bone of my right ankle, but shake it off.

Same thing on day #10, so I go home and pull the liner and check the shell, nothing's stuck inside, everything looks good.

Day #11; I bail out of the mountain after 4 hours in lots of pain, but once I take the boots off, my ankle feels fine. If I press on the bone, it hurts a bit, but there's not any other pain, like when walking or anything - it's just when the boot presses right on my ankle...

On day 12, I switched over to my Scarpa Lasers, but I felt the same pain, though I'm fairly sure it was carryover from the previous 3 days in the Langes...

So, any ideas on what to do?

    Get the liners blown out?

Put a pad on my ankle?

    Give up and start snowboarding?

I'm not sure what the problem really is, so chime on in with any ideas! Thanks!:

Get a proper footbed to hold your ankle in proper alignment with your foot so your ankle doesn't keep collapsing over until it pushes hard into the shell. Your other ideas may work or need to be done eventually but not until this is done.

    Where did you buy them?
Most decent shops have a "guaranteed fit", meaning they will do any boot mods for free. The trim to fits you purchased where a step in the right direction, but you may still have problems that exist outside of the foot beds, cuff alingment. etc.

The Insole you talk about in green sounds like a superfeet brand NOT surefoot. Surefoot usually tops theirs in blue but that's just the ones I've seen. IF it is superfeet those units don't offer much support for most people. It sounds like your ankle is collapsing over until it hits the shell. While a good shop should guarantee the fit that would only be if you buy according to their recommendations which should have included adequate foot support if needed. Regardless before you start punching the shell or padding be sure your foot is adequately supported and if not that will likely fix the problem along with several others.

L7, you're right, it's one of the superfeet insoles, my bad on the name...

The boots were a gift from a friend in the industry, he had me go to a shop he reps to (with their permission) and have them fit, then he shipped them to me direct. And yes, I threw the guys at the shop some $$$ to say thanks...

So, I'm just going to have the guys at the shop make some insoles for me, sounds like that's the direction I need to head in.

    Thanks for all the advice!

    RB,

I have Langes and I have the same ankle pain. When I take my boots off at the end of the day that bone is red and swollen. I broke that ankle several years ago and never had surgery on it. It looks like there is some kind of calcium deposit/growth from the injury. It only hurts when I'm wearing my ski boots. I would highly suggest getting some type of custom liner or support for that area. I haven't done anything for mine except for advil at the beginning and end of the day. Good luck.

Thanks Truth, I went and saw Earl this morning...he's got my right boot and is going to punch the shell and blow out the liner a bit...says my ankle bone protrudes too much for this boot in it's current state, so he's going to fix it...he's pretty confident that will take care of the problem...

I would have told him you said hello, but I didn't think he'd know who "Truth" was...............................................

No worries. Just glad I could turn another maggot on to Earl. He's amazing. I've got some fuct up feet and if not for him I'd have given up skiing years ago. I'm in my 3rd pair of Earl boots. I actually make pilgrimages to SLC to get fit. Kinda sucks blowing a few days yo-yo'ing up and down LCC but it's so worth it to get your boots right.

Can't wait to hear your post-Earl boot report.

Sounds like if I'm going to get back to skiing, I better see Earl one of these days. Just dumped my boot money on a rack for the Jeep.

I skied last Friday, one run and my ankle killed and I was out of control and did not like that feeling at all. Borrowed boots were too big and it has been 8 years.

If Im going back, I better to it right over this season and next.
