Skied Alta this morning. Skiable to the car.

Main Chute is still skiable top to bottom.
Little Chute looks good, except for the mini cliff 1/3 way down.
The billy goat lines to the east look fun too. (I don't know the names)
    All of Ballroom is skiable.

Going Saturday afternoon and sunday afternoon.

Skied down firm/icy snow at 11am. Best to wait until it softens.

Thanks man! I was wondering if it was worth it to go tomorrow or not. Was thinking of doing Main Chute actually.

Some Utard outta start a site like: www.jhsnowobs.org . For Utah, obviously. It is a great resource for local and visiting skiers. It may take more work and cash than I think...I'm not a web site guy.

We already have one, by WRA/Wow.

    www.wowasatch.com

As good as any avy report from the Feds, more terrain travelled in a week than most cover in a month, and real time, easy to digest info for the avy inquirer.

Wanking the heli a bit today. Frame grabs.

Me, Lu, and Tigerstripe40 saw you down there with your heli (we were the 3 nuts climbing to the top of baldy while you were down messing around with the chopper in ballroom). Generally icy icy conditions. Lots of crust. Me, Lu, Beaterd, and Jtrue dropped little chute. The top was a little sketchy as it was sugar straight to the ground. The rest of the chute and ballroom were pretty good though.

We skied a run on the shoulder, then little chute.
The shoulder had a few decent turns but overall was getting a little firm and chunky.
Little chute doesn't quite go, but close enough. Bit of a rocky-striaightline choke.
Conditions were sugar in the shallower areas, and fairly consistent but unconsolidated pow in the deeper areas up to about 4' depth.
The shallow sugar made for some interesting skiing up high. I'd be concerned about the lower windloaded stuff if it was more cohesive and slabby, but it's pretty loose.
    Fun day.

Sugary ,eh? I was wondering how the snow was doing. I was hoping the day time warmth and just barely-below-freezing night time temps would turn the snow corny rather than sugary.

Anyone else care to comment on what this current snow will do after it snows again (various commitments are keeping me from skiing until it snows again)?

I don't have kids. But my friend Jon brought his 12 year old on the tour today. The youngster was keeping up with the old guys, AND carrying his dad's food and water.

Went up with JTrue, Beaterd, Ryan, Powderpond, Commander the Bull Dog Baker, Jon, and the youngster, Shawn.

Interlaced frame grabs from video. I don't feel like deinterlacing them.

    Beaterd, enjoying the weather.

    Powderpond, just about there.

Powderpond on Tele's. Main Chute is pretty fun right now.

    Flyin' Ryan.

Jon entering, as his son watches from above.

After Main Chute, we booted up Dogleg. Here's Shawn, still cranking out the vert and moving fast.

    Once again, Dad goes first.

    Then his kid follows.

And proceeds to make all the old guys look bad.

I think his dad might want to have a father/son talk about this.

The point, with purple gloves. Kid's got it figured out.

Went out today with a non-mag to hit baldy. His legs crapped out so we just did the snowfield on the west baldy shoulder that has been tracked out. We traversed over to the chutes right under the big cliffs and hit those and they were just hardpack ice. Seems like main chute, little chute and dogleg are the places with non icy conditions. It really needs to snow again. With conditions they way they are, it will be sketchy when it does snow.

Well, today was a pretty damn good day. The superstar hucksters didn't show up, but that's fine. Today was the first real productive day with the heli.

I'll have a clip up in a couple of weeks. A 'preseason' kind of thing. Also licensed some cool music today, so it will be legit.

Flying around the summit of Baldy. I made Ryan do multiple laps, up and down, up and down. Gotta get the shot.

Made him ski Main Chute 1.5 times. The last time, I followed him about 1/4 way down with the heli, then did a climb out, as seen here. The footage looks like a cable cam, only better.

Ran into a friendly Wasatch local some of us know.

You guys are hardcore, still skiing? I mean, it's perfect climbing weather. Wow, my priorities have changed, let me know if it ever snows again.

Hah, yep, "it's hard to me mad when the friction's so good."

Starting to hear about a pattern change for next week, my days of feeling like I'm cragging on the beach might be coming to an end finally...?
