Austria:one meter of snow-21.10.07-lots of pics

The winter is here, right now!

With temps below -10 at 1700-1800 m and artic temps on the glaciers, such -20 C at the Hintertux glacier…
Tons of snow in the Austrian Alps, especially in Lower, Upper Austria, in Styria an in some part of Salzburg.
Over one meter of freshies in Dachstein and Hochschwab, up to 80 cms of the white stuff in Lower Austria.

Some Austrian resorts will be open on 26th October and start the season 2007/2008!

Like Planai or Hochwurzen in the Ennstal (around Schladming).
Planai is between 800 and 2000 m, the skiruns will be open from the mid station (around 1300 m).

Some pics from the past weekend:

Offensee note that the village is located at 600 m!!!!

Stuhleck – the valley is at 900 m

    Tiroler Kogel (~1300m)

and a little vid from the snowmaking:

    Planai on 20th October:

and more is coming on Tuesday!!

Sweetness. It's good to see the Euros getting hit hard like that, it just seems like the way it ought to be, big snow in the Alps. Just like there ought to be big snow at Snowbowl, and all winter too. So there.

east of salzburg I'd say another 50cm +X above 1000m on top of that meter at 1600m and above.
30-45cm generally at 1000m right now.

AND keeps your fingers crossed because something nice may be in the pipeline for the begin of november......

edit: and fuck that antijinx. it didn't work out last season

    yesterday in austria....

Perhaps global warming is causing the good early snow?

A meter? Isn't that what you put coins in at parking spots?

Don’t worry Fernie will blow your mind. If Griz is doing the work like he should it will snow like crazy. But on the other side you will get a few times the famous pineapple express which is a real pain. Right now Austria the place to be….
