    Fischer Duke 207cm w/ fin

I was looking at these ugly ass Fischer's yesterday on the net and now I can't find them anywhere! Does anybody know anything at all about these things or anybody who has skied them. They were named Fischer Duke but then it seemed this year they droped the name so I guess they are just called 207's now since they only come in 207cm. They have a fin-like tail that looks to me like a gimmick but I was just checking for sure if anyone has ever skied them before. It's almost as if overnight Fischer erased them from the net out of embarrassment or something. (They should have just kept making their 2003 Big Stix's, great ski).

Would you mind elaborating on that? I'm guessing either 1. Too big a ski unless its steep and super wide open, or 2. Too much sidecut for such a big ski.

I was sort of interested in these, its a least cool to see longer skis getting made again.

Too long...don't understand the need for a 207...just seems excessively, and was not enjoyable to ride.

There in Powder Mag. (duh, as if you didn't already know that) They are not the dukes anymore, they are simply called the 207. If I had a pair I would take a hack saw to the fin.

I'd cut a slot right under the bindings and add retractable centerboards.

What the hell ever happened to reviews that would tell the pros and the cons of the ski, which testers loved the thing and which hated it, along with not being afraid of blowing the whole thing out of the water if need be. I haven't seen the physical guides yet but all the online ski gear guides (Powder included) all read like the same damn positive glowing reviews one after another.

The problem is what you love about a ski, I may hate about it; your pro may be my con. Even if we're roughly the same size and skiing ability. As to why all the reviews are positive, for Powder, we reviewed about 120 out of thousands of skis on the market. We don't have the space (or time) to review a shitty ski just for the sake of blowing something out of the water. The best we can hope for is to give readers some vital information about skis we believe in that will help them make up their own minds.

For example, I can look at this ski and say "a 207 fat ski is too big for me, and the skeg seems kind of gimmicky. this ski is not for me." I didn't need some guy in a SKI magazine official tester coat to tell me that. However, my 6'6" 240 lb friend who has never skied a ski that he can't bend may look at this and say, "finally!" If I were to haze this ski because it's not right for me, what does he get out of that?

Who cares, they're shorter than 210. Not worth it.

Well I would want to know if the skeg IS gimmicky or not. A new feature like that I think should be reviewed to verify if it does what it was designed to do/suppose to do/advertised to do, or if it is just a marketing ploy that seems to be neither good or bad, or if the damn thing completely screws up all control whatsoever. The manufacturer advertises it to be a revolutionary ski that gives superior control, stability and function in a deep powder environment. It seems like all the guide did was just repeat what Fischer had to say about it as if it was copied and pasted from the brochere. Maybe I just have a problem with how it's written up. I mean it says, "the tail fin—like that on a surfboard—adds control in the powder. " Does it really??? I mean did the testers take this ski out in big powder and feel added control due to the tail fin or was it just written because that's what Fischer says it does?? By how the review is written it just sounds like it was copied and pasted from Fischer's brochere and not neccassarily tested and verified. I mean if the review was right on I could see some people saying "you know this ski just isn't for me" but I wouldn't think that a positive review with nothing bad to say about it would have every person who's ever experience the thing be saying that they want to take a hacksaw to it or that they don't ever want to see the thing again in their lifetime. I mean it just doesn't add up.

How tall is the skeg? I wonder how hard it would be to force that tail around, I mean like pivoting the ski? I'm guessing side slipping would be out if it's of any useable size....

And the idea of an under the foot skeg, though flippant could actually be a better idea. It would mean the ski would have a mad pivot but still track straight when haulin.

    either way I vote gimmick.

I thought the fin was originally supposed to be quickly removable, so you could alter the ski depending on conditions. Or is this still the case? Or am I just wrong?

I also like how the promo video says "handmade quality" then spends about 30 seconds showing machines work on the ski.

Even if it does what it is suppose to do I would still just assume that the ski is complete shit in anything other then deep powder. I envision that skeg getting in the way on hardpack big time. I have no problem with this though, I just want to know if in deep powder it really does what it is suppose to do. If it does what it is suppose to in deep powder then to me it's worth checking out since that is the only condition it was specifically designed for, but so far I just can't get an answer to that question.

clearly you're not up to the task of skiing them so...don't worry about it so much.
