TR - 4/7/07 Better late then never

TR - 4/7/07 Better late then never

Attendees: Spthomson, Killclimbz, IridePow, Steve, HikeforTurns

Location: Sol Vista Backcountry (near Mt Sneffels)

The day before plans were hatched, and we arranged to meet at the Sol Vista parking lot. We left a car there, then shuttled up towards the top of Mt Sneffels for the drop in. After about an hour trek, we were greeted to this nice looking east aspect, nicely loaded with some fresh pow:

We did some quick stability checks, then started things off with a low consequence line.

    Spthomson:

    Killclimbz is in there somewhere:

there he is, coming up for air!

    Killclimbz, with Cody in tow.

After that, stability and snow conditions were deemed: Favorable. So we moved on to some steeper stuff. Spthomson checking that out:

IridePow living up to his screenname:

    Killclimbz dropping in:

I think he likes his Never Summer Splitter.

    Pondering the insanity....

    Cody:

That run was fun, who says Sol Vista doesnt have steeps?

Last lap, Steve getting a taste:

    IridePow:

Proof HikeforTurns was there too: (photos by Killclimbz)

    More pondering.....

    The End!

Bringing your dog into avalanche terrain isn't the brightest idea! Let me guess, you put a beacon on your dog too!

I took him out on some of the easier runs on Berthoud Pass. After spending a climbing season taking him out with me, he was already a good trail dog. It just took a few runs for him to figure out what we were doing. Now it's his favorite thing to do.

Thanks, HikeforTurns, for putting this together. Sorry for not getting 'er dun as originally planned...it was a busy few days of pow turns, working my butt off on other days to make the pow days possible (and do my taxes), and getting ready for a trip to NY this past weekend (just got back today). Excuses, excuses.

Really, really good day indeed. Bomber snowpack with a nice 10" of excellent pow on top. What's on tap for this weekend?

I'm a firm believer in the "better late than never" mantra.

This was worth the wait too. Great looking snow, pics, action, and crew!

yeah, looks like a great day. thanks for the april stoke.

i so wish that missturnearner hadn't convinced our group to turn around that day. granted, we did 10 car crashes in a 5 mile seciton of i-25. we didn't even make it to 6th ave. went to lucile's for a massive breakfast instead. man, their bloody maries and biscuits are $$$.
