TR: Return of Winter in Crested Butte!!! 3/28 & 3/29

TR: Return of Winter in Crested Butte!!! 3/28 & 3/29
goldenboy and mtnbikerskierchick

The National Weather Service had been calling for Winter Storm Warnings in the mountains of Colorado. But, Crested Butte ski area only received a TRACE each day! What a disappointment! But you could look west and see a big looming cloud over the mountains. So we went to see what we could find.

We found a snowmobile graveyard.

A couple of miles of snowmobiling over stuff like this

Brought us to this....

And a couple of hours of skinning up this....

Brought us to this cabin....

And then enless returns of lucious POW!

A look back at the day's line:

We liked it so much that we went back for more the next day!!!!

And then goldenboy hitched a ride with some friends back to gather his 'bile. I call it the Kelly sandwich

It's been nice hanging out with goldenboy these last few days. I don't get sick of him. That's a good thing.

Wow, I've seen 4x4 truck graveyards in the winter, but not sled graveyards.

The pow looks mighty tasty.

Well, okay.... it's REALLY a snowmobile parking lot. Folks here are just too lazy to take 'em home with them! Or they just don't have a place where they can keep their snowmobiles, or don't have the $$ to buy a trailer..... something like that. I thought I might go and borrow one for the day, but Karma got the best of me.

Don't worry, the ski area is just as bad if not worse than when you were here, it's just the backcountry that improved

You look like the Easter bunny in those pastel colors. Good to see winter is still around. Hopefully it will last through next week here in Cali.

I am headed down there tonight. Was all excited, saw NOAA's forecast of something like 8-13 total for the storm. And barely an inch. BOOOO!!!

I won't be there with any skinners/bilers, so it's rocky resort for me!

Praying for sunny warm weather, maybe I can console myself with slush bumps.

hutash- people have been calling me an Easter Bunny for a year now I don't mind it!

Danno- If you get some warmer temps the resort will be fun. A few days ago the resort was skiing really well... perfect spring skiing conditions! The main problem is that they don't have much open. They never opened Third Bowl this season. The front side chutes are pretty much melted out. And they don't have Pheonix/Spellbound open much (which means access to Staircase is gone) b/c they are worried about wetslides. You will find good snow on Headwall and the adjacent glades. I also really liked slushy Cesspool!
