PSA: Denver mags, new awesome New Mexican Restaurant

Where Tosh's used to be. 31st and Downing. It is called Kiva and it is fucking really good and well priced.

The chicken wings are kill3r and so is their red sauce. Quite caribe! Stay away from the tacos, however.

they are just kind of bland, imo. No real sauce for them. though they have this kick-ass chipotle salsa you could put on them.

I rarely eat tacos (except the hairy ones), and am more of an enchillada type guy. So I was RLY digging the red sauce.

Nick, this place is as good as Little Anitas.

WTF is New Mexican food? I've heard of Tex-Mex., or just Mexican food, but not New Mexican food.

New Mexican food is similar to mexican food, but the emphasis is more on the chiles. It is arguably no different than "Tex-Mex" or Mexican food proper, just different, representing the flare of New Mexico (ie., an emphasis on the specific chiles, different flavors vis-a-vis Mexican food, proper, and not as kitschy as Tex-Mex cuisine).

Ha! I just had breakfast there. There's one in the Tech Center off of Arapahoe and Yosemite. Good breakfast burritos. I've never had lunch or dinner there, but the menu looks good.

Jack and Grill has watery green chile on top of the burritos. I like thick green chile for sure.

I used to think that I liked Mexican food until I found out that (authentic) mexican food was not what I was eating.

There is an area called Mexicantown here. They have many popular restaurants and I have always liked the food. I have found that there are also plenty of restaurants that serve an whole different kind of mexican food (For example: tacos with steak, onions, and cilantro.) So now I guess I like mexican-American food.

What does this mean? I don't know. I will just say that I am a picky eatter.

does this place have off street parking ? 31st & downing is not exactly the safest area in denver. just ask the 3 hippies who got robbed (and then shot) about 5 blocks from there.

    Chain restaurant swill.

I'm not sure if Ron meant to capitalize the New meaning the state, or if he meant a recently opened mexican restaurant.

either way the only thing worth mentioning at Jack and Grill is the fact that if you were to try and eat their burger while driving it would eclipse your view of the road.

I find it distressing that pablo escobar would be afraid of 31st and downing. The size of his security entourage alone would make me not afraid...oh well.
