    Best Denver Metro BBQ Shop?

That other BBQ thread got me thinking that we are lacking in great BBQ shops in the Denver metro area. My favorite so far has to be Blest in Littleton. I'm still not completely satisfied though. I lived just South of Memphis for about 6 years and there are only 2 things I miss. Great BBQ and Graceland. For God's sake the King had a room with green shag carpet on the floor, walls, and ceiling. But I digress...

Where is the really good BBQ around Denver?

    Only in backyards.

There is some adequate bbq (and a thread about this very subject if you search) but nothing mind blowing.

I have heard that Brickyard BBQ on 38th and lowell-ish is good. But I have never been there myself.

Not in Denver, but Hog Heaven off 285 is yummy.

The Breck Brewery BBQ is pretty damn good. Their IPA is exceptional.

When I lived down there, a dude used to roll up to an empty parking lot in the tech center with a tow-behind grill/smoker/whatever contraption. That shit ruled, but it gave me the 'meat sweats' on those hot summer lunchbreaks.

I think he opened up a place called "Jabo's." It was on Arapahoe and ???

BBQ in Denver? Go east...just past Aurora to a little place called Kansas City.

I concur. That one is pretty good.

Don't say Brother's. Although I will agree with the few that say it is hit and miss.

In the late 80’s Big Jim’s had the best ribs in the Denver area. They foreclosed on his restaurant, so he started selling them out of a van along the side of the road. Bennett’s is the only BBQ place I know these days, it’s a chain and not that tasty IMO.

This is yet another thread about the poor food selection in Denver. If food is your thing you gotta move where people are a little fatter. Like Chicago, where a good conversation starts with “Have you been to that new restaurant that just opened?”

Being from the South... I have to say that Denver is hurting bad in the BBQ department.

My favorite is Daddy Bruce's in Boulder. I like more vinegar than tomato based sauces.

Half of Denver BBQ joints don't even have a smoke smell in them I know I've had real BBQ when I smell like it 3 hours later.

daddy bruces...mmmm my roomates and i catered our college grad party from that guy. I mustve dropped close to a grand in the shack over 4 years in Boulder...the sauce is the boss, though sometimes the meat gets a little dry if you go late in the afternoon...

It aint in Denver but a little west. Has anyone ever been to Moe's bbq in vail?

I'm from Bama originaly and so are the guys working there. I gotta say it's the only place I have found out of the south that is just like home. The sweet tea is right on, the mac 'n cheese is unbeliveable and the makers mark seem to always be a flowin! Oh yeah, the BBQ is great too.

    God I'm really hungry now!

not sure if you've searched but try DefJef's "vail sucks" thread. it's a multi-faceted Diaper(denver) restaurant thread. Or just ask Rontele. He's the resident Diaper joint expert.

Fritz, I am quite flattered. But I get from my girlfriend's dad. He knows his Denver eats (he should, he is third generation). We tried a new BBQ place up in Westminster near 92nd. Stick to the ribs only, very good. The brisket and chicken were inedible.

I should convince him to have all the maggots over this summer for a rib smoking.

That DefJef thread is repository of every good place to eat in Denver. Period.

Slayton's in Colorado springs is probably the best BBQ I have had in Colorado. It has got that great smoked in flavor/smell, very good, a must try if your in the area. I also like Q4U in Frisco, hole in the wall place, but damn good BBQ, its a must stop after a day of snowboarding, b/f heading back to the front range.

Q4U is great, imo. the burnt ends there are delicious.

the sweet shop in empire with the 99 cent burgers has really good sliced brisket sandwiches. The owners are from Houston so they know how to cook BBQ, but it is definitely not a BBQ place.

There used to be a Daddy Bruce's in Denver near the country club, off Yale I think. Literally on the golf course. Is it not there anymore? The one in Boulder is run by his son.

Don't care for Brother's all that much. Hillbilly BBQ in Longmont had a bunch of different sauces, but he closed down. Shorty's in Longmont = shitty, tomato paste stuff. Their pork shoulder is tasty though- smoked for 30 hours- oh so tender.

It really depends on the style of BBQ you are looking for, too. Daddy Bruce's is a little vinegary IMO, but I'm told that's memphis style. I really don't know though- never been to memphis. I like Texas style, with beans please. Kansas City is good once in awhile. Dry Rubs can be ok, but I prefer the sauce.

I crave BBQ about once a week. I am trying Stubb's sauce for my next batch at home (don't have a smoker). What are other store-boughts that are good?
