Alpe D’Huez avec familie Roo….A Trip Report.

    12th & 13th March 2007

I heard the Roo pair had rented a house in the French Alps for a week so I decided to crash it for a couple of days. Brownmonkey was there as was the famed Random Chaz Factor and various others. Hicks was also due to show up but he cancelled last minute claiming he had a small country to invade, Slovakia I think.

I arrived at about midnight, Mrs Roo had also just arrived having spent the previous week Heliskiing in the Italian Alps. The house sleeps 17 and there were 10 of us so plenty of space.

I got this route picture from Davidof’s excellent www.pistehors.com site so thanks go to him.

First morning was bluebird so we decided to hit the Couloir de Fleur (Route H). It’s about 45 degrees and was very crusty.

    Brownmonkey on the way down.

We stopped and hooked up with the rest of the happy holidaymakers at a mountain restaurant for lunch. Roo climbed a small hill beside the restaurant and claimed it as his own.

A few unfortunate kids thought they could join him

How wrong they were, he slid down on his arse mowing them down without mercy.

Next up was the North (?) entrance to the Perins bowl…..(a variation of Route G)
    Obligatory point

Whilst Brownmonkey & myself got craaaazy

We got down onto the apron and opened up

Nothing is fucking normal with these people. I thought we’d get back to the house, eat the excellent curry cooked up by Mrs Roo and chill out and play Nintendo or watch a dvd. Wrong!

These retards decided to go off-roading in Chaz’s Hilux (note Roo in the passenger seat wearing his pj's)

Brownmonkey got all depressed about the size of his balls so he decided to top himself on one of the hairpin bends

Roo felt sorry for him so he gave him a cuddle

Having got back to the house, Brownmonkey thought it’d be ok to scale a lamp post. He tied a metal weight to the end of his rope & tried to throw it over the cross top of the post

He failed, but narrowly missed clocking several cars and onlookers.

Next day was bluebird again. We decided on the Couloir L’Impossible (Route A)

We took the cablecar up to Pic Blanc and started hiking

This shot’s for you Hicks….see? No snow! Roo & Brownmonkey have renamed you Bilko by the way, no idea why, you’ll have to ask them.

Couloir L’Impossible proved to be impossible, we bailed because we didn’t know if we’d get cliffed out or not in these conditions so we made our way back to the west face of the Pyramide (Route B) and scored some deep buttery goodness….

    Roo & view….

Then I jumped on a plane and came home. The end.

Can't believe I didn't get that in somewhere, I'm slipping.

The snow's ok high up >2200m. Below that it starts getting sketchy. It's hard to tell from the pics, the white balance is so messed up.

Just got back so TR to follow. My only heli skied one day and my camera froze so I'm waiting for a few pics from others in the party. It was pretty cool though.

Hay, Hayduke! Where's that bloody picture of me slaying the Perrins ?

Cheers tough guys. I'll have to stick a little TR up of my own. Friday was rather eventful to say the least.

Excellent write-up Hayduke. You guys are keeping the standards so high that I can't being myself to post a damn TR unless there's at least some major property damage or ritual sacrifice involved.

    Enjoy Austria!
