SILVERTON SUMMIT LODGING/ T-RIDE HUT COMMITTMENT TIME

    Hey folks,

Due to the rapidly approaching date and credit card deposits I will soon have to pay, it is time to committ to accomodations if you want in.

The Wednesday night before Silverton I have booked a roadside hut on Red Mtn pass that will be 15 bucks per person for the night, including dinner on Wednesday and Thursday morning breakfast (no booze). the place sleeps 14 or so and has couches for a few more, so space should not be much of an issue. Space is capped at 16.

I have booked no lodging for Thursday night, but for Friday night I have booked the Alta Lakes Observatory outside of T-ride. This is the nicest hut I have ever seen in Colorado. I talked to the guy who owns it and he cautioned me that the water situation might be a bit of an issue. The hot-ish soaking tub might not be up and running, but there will most definitely be water for cooking and flushing toilets. There is a dry sauna, which will definitely be up and running, but the hot tub might be a no-go (the owner makes no garuntees, but didnt want us to get down there and be disappointed. He said he will do everything in his power to have it operational, but can make no promises). Despite that, I still booked it and think it remains an awesome place to spend the night. Cost will be 50 bucks per person for the night. Your 50 bucks gets you a bed in the super hotness, one dinner, one breakfast, and your fair share of a keg. Space is capped at 15. oh yeah, and there is a 20' stepdown gap to endless perfect tranny off an old mining tressle pretty much right out the door...

pics of both places can be found in the previous thread: http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=61685

While both places sleep many folks, I do think they will both fill up, so if you want to come, post so in this thread and pm me for payment options. Only cash in hand will secure a space at this point. People are welcome at one or both places, as you wish, though the place behind t-ride should only be for people that are very, very comfortable in the backcountry.

You will notice that this provides accomodations for Wednesday and Friday. I will be staying with friends while in T-ride, i.e. Thursday and Saturday, but if people are interested, I am sure that I can find the best deal on accomodations for those two nights through friends that live and work in the industry in town. If you would like me to look into arranging accomodations for wither of those nights, let me know.

    let's get it on....

I will update this original post with names as they come in so people know how much space is available:

    Joey Joe Joe Junior Shabadoo

Yup, I'm in and 2nd on the hard work! How can I get you "cash in hand"? If you are cool with looking for digs on Friday, I'd be in on that too. As far as getting to the hut on Friday, will we be in need of sleds, are they ok to use in the area (assuming so from the pix)? I was thinking about buying a tow behind sled for shuttling goods up to the hut. Costco has a 3 week lead time for the one I was looking at.

Side note, I am planning on taking the entire week off and was thinking……
Leave Denver 23rd of March for Taos – Taos>>>>Wolf Creek/Backcountry>>>>Silverton>>>>Telluride Hut>>>>A$$pen for the end of the Summit. Anyone else out there that can swing something along these lines and wanna ride share?

Oh, and PFB, if you leave on Feb 23rd, that is one hell of a month-long-plus roadtrip. I am counting on the end of March for this trip

paypal, hommie. pm me for the addy.

thursday night accomodations look to be around 170 for a one bedroom condo with a queen and pull out couch that is stumbling distance from the bars or a two bedroom place in town looks to be going for around 260. if there are enough people that want to go that route, i can have a dirt pimp buddy in town make the reservation and get us those prices. just let me know. you could probably cram 6-8 peeps in the one bedroom, which would make it pretty damn cheap for a place in town.

reid- Wanted to make it clear I was NOT implying I wanted to reserve a spot. I've got a buddy with a house in town that I'll be staying at.

Thanks for all your effort here tho. It's appreciated.

The date for the Silverton Summit is Thursday, 3/29/07. If the dates for these lodgings precede and follow that date, their date is an exercise left to the reader.

pm'ed you. six spots include SS and hopefully drummond or the crazy polack, who i hear wants to come. sounds like a bad plan to me, but then again, he has taken a header into a moving bronco, so it can't be worse than that...

Reid - Your box is full. Do you have directions or a map to the Yurt on top of Red Mt or is it really obvious? We'll be coming in late.

I'm not positive on this but I believe it's the one just a lil ways south of the summit of the pass. Easily seen from the road.

I think this if taken from the back side and the highway would be to the left. (as in looking back north NE)

    Red Mtn hut info:

Probably 1/2 mile or so past summit of Red Mtn (south side) there are some turnouts. This is where you should park. John's silver Suburban will be there and he just told me he'll probably be arriving there between 2 and 3 tomorrow afternoon.

I'm sending a PM with the hut # and John's digits to those I know are staying there tomorrow night. If I miss anyone, PM me and I'll get you the info by later tonight.
