    Scarpa boots - next season stuff eye candy

    I'm a Scarpa fan. That's no secret. I was able to sqeeze a bit of beta out of my buddy who knows someone who knows someone at Scarpa. I'm sure that the Scarpa boys are gonna feel some heat once BD gets their boots out. Perhaps this is why they've been stepping it up. I upgraded from the Matrix to the Spirit 3 this season and have been stoked.

    These are two of the new boots that they are coming out with. He put it like this:

    Hurricane = Chris Davenport

    F3 = Andrew McClean

    It sounds like the Hurricane is the big bro to the Tornado and unlike that one you don't have to switch out the rubber sole - it works in alpine or AT bindings. 8 lbs., 4 ozs. Not for the Dynafit crowd. It looks bomber and has some application to the one run and done in the slackcountry crew. The question is though - do you really want to buy what is basically and alpine boot from Scarpa? Perhaps, perhaps not. Discuss.

    The F3 is a beefy version of the F1. The Dynafit crowd who skimp ounces may be switching from the Sprit/Matrix to this one. (Trackhead - here you go mang) Not I. 3 new boots in 3 years. I'm sticking to the Matrix for at least another year.

    You forgot the Terminator X.

    NTN and Dynafit compatible.

    Thought the tornado already has the one sole fits alpine and AT thing going on, its the Adrenalin and Endorphin that you switch out alpine and vibram type soles. For stuff like hiking the ridge at BB and esp Headwaters at Moonlight an alpine boot with a little more vibram in strategic places would be very nice.

    Sweet, sweet beta. The F3 looks intriguing. Wonder if Dav is finishing his 14ers in that Hurricane. Looks like alot to lug around.

    okay, 1) does anyone actually tele AND use dynafits? seriously? i might do a bit of both, but i don't need or want one boot to do both...

    2) how is the f3 different than the matrix? looks pretty much exactly the same, minus the sweet flexon comp tongue i have on mine...

    any clue as to how bit they will run?ANY chance a compaly will FINALLY cater to the sasquatch foot crowd seeking a good solid AT boot and not a piece of seran wrap?

    Come on Marshall, you cant just throw out little teasers like that! what do you know about the new Garmonts? How about a beefier Dynafit compatible boot (please!)? So intuition will be making the new Scarpa liners? Different than current Intuitions?

    I heard that they are indeed making the Scarpa liners. I'm not sure if they are different than the current ones - I would assume that there are some design elements to make them unique to Scarpa. They are calling them the "premium SCARPA intiution liner" so it sounds like they are focused on the SCARPA portion of that.

    I'll see if I can't dig some more info up.

    F1 and F3 are not for tele!

    F1 is for AT races, where it has nearly 100% of the market.

    Racers will most likely still use the F1 (clearly much lighter than F3), but I will try for sure the F3, even though I know my foot is more garmont-friend that scarpa-friend.

    True, tough peeps have been know to tele with F1's (possible with Voile VP-2's and Bombers)... The new Terminator X will have dynafit inserts and work with them, as well as with the new NTN telemark binders (not on the market yet).

    Even better thing is that basicly all the new NTN boots should also work with reg. AT binders (though you might have to fiddle around with small shims like when using the F1).

    I'm waiting for Crispi to step up and announce a NTN boot based on XR (or Diablo) suitable for NTN and w/ dyna-inserts... One boot to do it all (tele, at and dyna).

    Dunno about the Dyna insert; but the XR NTN protos I played with didn't have them. They were stiff though, possibly stiffer than any production AT boot I've seen yet, so it could work. Still sceptic about the bellows with Dynafit and insta-tele modes when skiing hard. So far my frankenboot walkmode+vibram Flexon Pros still work better than what's out there I think (besides all AT boots seem very very roomy) - though I haven't managed to get them Dynafitted yet.

    Unless Scarpa decides to soon cough up something bigger than the softish X (they will, but they seem to take their time about it...) they will loose the hardcore market and it's advertising value to Crispi. In case someone manages to convince me that tele really does not suck I believe the XR NTN will be my choice. Actually the XR+NTN might be WHY tele might not suck so much eventually.

    Well my future seems golden then, considering that I have the perfect Crispi-feet and Scarpa's just simply kill me feet .

    And I do agree that the bellows will mess up stuff, but atleast for me AT (be it dynafits or fritchies/naxos) will still have a hell of a lot more control than my teles, which I mostly ride.

    And from what I have heard F1's work pretty well, when you install the shims.

    Honestly? Now that they announced the T-X is going to be not only NTN compat but Dynafit compat I'm really REALLY considering a superlight setup specifically for doing long hut trips and crap like that.

    You can't beat dynafit for ungodly light rigs.

    there were rumors -friend of mine just said - that dynafit will no more renew the binding-compatibility license to garmont and scarpa (F3 clearly are dynafit-compatible, though). Any beta?

    they would need to be very confident that it would lead to increased sales of their boots rather than decreased sales of their bindings...
