    Mystery ski in Skiing Mag

I got the new issue of skiing mag the other day, there is a picture of Trevor Hiatt who last I knew was a skier for head on a mystery ski it looked to be super wide and have no camber. Can't be sure on that but it did apear to have tip and tail tapper. And it had a florecent green base. Any body know what this is?

If ski companies didn't make new skis every year I wouldn't have to get new skis every year.

It's a spatula-type ski made by head. Search and you'll find a picture of it in SA.

Have you ever skied with Trevor? If so, you'd actually know that its not just a "story", but actually true. And if somebody would make me skis designed for whatever I wanted, I'd probably make one too. I'd probably make a 150-140-130 while I was at it. Why not?

And you need a new name.

During that "maggot trip" to valdez, Dean Cummings just switched to head and said that he would be working with them on a more "pwder friendly ski". This may be the result (he was on Fat-a-pus at the time).

Pretty sure it was actually made by the guys at Igneous and then they just slapped a head topsheet on it
Seriously, this can’t turn into yet another ON3P thread....

He's on the Head International team and Head sent him out the topsheet.

I'm a friend of Trevor's and have seen that ski in it's various incarnations over the years. The ski is Trevor's own design and he's been skiing on versions of it for the past 3 years. He very rarely gets credited with it, but he was one of the first to take the Spatula concept and actually move forward with it - literally years before the db/armada guys.

The original skis (with the old monster topsheet) were around 180cm long and were super soft in the tip and tail. He designed them and worked hand in hand with the guys at Igneous to build them. The new versions are now made by a boutique snowboard manufacturer to his exact specs. I think they're
about 130 at the waist with a lot of tip and tail taper. The reason for the severe taper is that Trevor says it makes you less likely to catch a tip/tail when switching from regular to fakie in pow and vice versa. The ski you see there is 190cm with a running lenght of about 150. The primary
difference between these and the lotus 138's is that these have significantly more sidecut in the centre of the ski. They also have a very slight amount of camber. If you look closely you'll see the skis have the new mojo105 topsheet on them. I bet Head are also wishing they'd supplied some die cut bases given that photo.

When i last spoke to Trevor about them it was after he had been to Whisler with the Head team. He presented them to the rest of the athletes there and got a great response. Jon Olsen actually borrowed them and apparently asked Head if they could redirect their efforts to commercialise a version of it.

Overall it's a shame it isn't readily available as Trevor's been prototyping versions for so long now that he really claims to have the ski dialed. The guys i know that have tried it have said it's blown their mind.

Trevor has got some extremely progressive ideas and is a balls out skier that really pushes the boundries of what is (and isn't) possible - Head are extremely lucky to have him .

hmmm okay....I don't really care to get involved in an internet rumor dealio....I had spoken to someone who I'd think should know, but either way said that trevor is VERY psyched on them....

edit - spoke too soon....Either way I don't find that ski that appealing. 150cm running length? ouch.

it sounds like the first pair was built by igneous, but now the idea has moved on and is being further developed by head.

either way, they look pretty fun

I saw the pair that Igneous made in their workshop when I picked up my FFF's . The dudes said they were super fun in pow but aimed at landing switch in pow and stuff like that. They even had Freerides on them
