Epic Powder on Mt Mansfield, VT: Oct 15th

This is not me but figured I'd pass it along since its pretty awesome. Justin and friends have a reputation of skiing with the most questionable coverage (if you can call it that) but goes out, hikes 2,500 verts, and skis Mount Mansfield's high elevation dusting. The NWS reported 0.3" of new snow at the snowstake at 3,900ft.

    Eastern skiing has begun?

Back in November of 2004, he also showed how a half inch of pure fluff on top of a rock solid ground can be skied with style.

Sorry about the pic size, but I think it shows just how little snow there actually is.

the moment there is actually enough snow to ski, i'll be up there. That wasn't enough snow to ski, by a long shot. props for making the effort though.

    Question

I was going to ask if its skiing's equivalent of a pet rock.

The words "epic," "powder," and "Vt," should not, and cannot, ever be in the same sentence. It just means you've never skied out West.

That brings new meaning to the term "rock skis."

If knee/shin pads are required to ski it, I think I'm going to pass.

Beg to differ. I always managed to get a few a season but you need to be willing to put in the effort. I still appreciate the cell phone call from buddies on the lift in Vermont enjoying a good day.

Spoken like a man who lets his flapping labia do his talking for him. You've obviously never hit tuckermans on a deep powder bluebird day when the avy layer is solid. That shit rivals anything you'll find out west, not as long, but sure as hell it's as steep and as ass puckering.

And anyway even if it isn't powder, corn is almost as much fun.

Great video. That deserves worldwide play on youtube. I, for one, would like to buy those dudes some beers. And to the ongoing east V. west debate, this furthers the dialogue in one meaningful way: No one would ever think of skiing conditions like that out west. In the east, it's not an option and, as the saying goes, 'necessity is the mother of invention.' It also gives new meaning to the concept of knee-deep -- as in, here, the grass and shrubbery. Salud.

that video is damn cool...but highway star was finding chest deep stashes at killington even on the hottest summer days because he knows where to look and you kooks don't. this is why he is so rad.

not to back him up, but I skied the Northeast for 20+ years and easily surpassed my best day there within a month of moving to CO.

"Oh, I'm from 'out west'. I ski powder everyday. I'm so gnar. You poor morons in 'the east' are so dumb and you never ski REAL powder. I am so rad it hurts."

I have no argument in the debate of east vs. west, as I have never skied out west, growing up in Mass, and skiing a solid winter last year for the first time in a few years, VT can get some killer pow. 24" at Jay last Febuary made me quiver. Yes I am a bit of a self admitted Jong at this point, but being on SoulSKier's floor here at UVM, I'm learning the ropes and will be making my first trip out west. There is nothing like skiing the east though. I love the sound of ice. And to add to this post, I have done the same thing before, and I felt like a tool, but it was such a good feeling saying that you have made turns before some of your friends.
