TR-Sept 16/06 some more Cdn stoke.

Heres some more stoke for the preseason fire. Sorry about the picture quality, but we were socked in pretty good for most of the morning.
Inspired by Eldo's fortress report, we decided to head up for some early....early mornin turns. I love how easy it is to get up at the crack of 5am for skiing.
Those mountains are pretty white eh?

After finding a skin track with a little snow on top, we headed to the farside. Big thanks to Eldo and crew for making our trek a little easier.

Oh yeah bob theres a lot a snow up here eh?

The skin up the farside was not the most fun with deep penetrations, but it was awesome to be in winter again.

After some food and some discussion, we planed our descent.
    (mmmm, backpack pizza)

Planned our line for the ridge line of this peak (Mt Baldy?)

    The summit

    The pow

    The celebratory beverage.

snow wasn't great, almost impossible to turn on our runs:

But it sure felt like winter out there:

Edit: sory to hijack this thread, figured I'd keep weekend at Fortress in one place. DG

    Nice pics, looks like FUN!!

Mt.. Baldy is the big BALD (no snow) thing towering above the Info center as you driv eout to the Fort. The pyrimid you are lookig at gets badly wind scrubed and is a shale nightmare, probably why there are no lifts to the top... Ski it gently in mid season after an upslope storm, what we just had is an upslope storm, cold wet weather out of the north, better is cold weather out of the north combined with wet weather out of the pacific... soft cold smoke falls then. Goos east slope skiing then. Watch for good upslopes in the spring but din't waste your pitex on that bump.

Well done! That's a hell of a hike up to the top of Baldy. (It's just called Baldy, not Mt Baldy. That is a peak by Barrier Lake.)

I was wondering if we'd see you young ski bums again this year walking up the road.

We used to hike Baldy and celebrate with a cold Pil too - back in the late 70s.

Dont stop there eldo--you can actually say you hiked uphill both ways though knee deep snow. I know we had too.

My bad...my only excuse is that I had a good pic of your line, which we watched you guys ski. Looked like gravy.

Sarcasm is hard to convey, next time Ill add a or something.

Midget--depends what aspect/elevation, but we were seeing at least 50-70 cm's where we went.
