December 2008 = two winters with no tram = sucky sucky sucky.
If they'd have made up their minds in January that might have put them on track to get december 2007.

Source is the press conference they had this morning. I don't have a link. I don't think they've put the press release up yet.
Cost is going to be $25 million. It's all bank financed. I suspect that was difficult to arrange. Jay Kemmerer implied that the Kemmerer family had to personally guarantee the loan, although I don't know that for sure.
You can rag on them all you want for taking so long, etc., but it's not so easy to commit that kind of money. I don't envy Jay & Connie Kemmerer for owning JHMR.

2 years without a tram is nobody's dream, but in the interim it might be unique to be able to do laps on Rendezvous bowl using the new "East Ridge Lift".
They said it was built to run under the severe conditions Rendezvous gets. I think they plan on taking that chair out once the new tram is in place. 2 year only summit chair. Could be cool.

Props to JH and its owners for making what I consider to be the correct decision. I'm glad they didn't go jumbo, and I'm glad they didn't settle for a twin cable Gondi. The tram gives Jackson Hole a special feeling, a reason to mingle with great skiers, and great access to the goods.
Anyway, , this is very good news imo.

In other exciting JH news... Robert Randolph & The Family Band will be playing at JH tomorrow, 8/10 (according to their website).

Also heard a rumor from a very reliable source that the East Ridge Chair will be moving to the crags/headwall area when the tram gets finished.

That would make sense if it was true. Especially with the new restaurant atop the Gondi coming in. Although idk if I like that as it will put way more traffic in those areas that though are highly trafficked now require a few minutes of extra effort to hike to that prevents a lot of joeys/tourists/whathaveyous from stealing all the pow, imo of course.
But the new tram construction is pretty sweet. It ain't about how hard you can hit, it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward - Rocky
