TR White Salmon Glacier, Mt Shuksan (for Kellie)

It seems that I share my birthday with Kellie. Since, if your knee rehab had been done at Baker as originally planned, you would have likely been on this trip, this TR is for you, Kellie!

For my B-day feast, a few local cooks decided to whip up a White Salmon feast. (“Will you still need me, will you still feed me …”)

King Salmon are supposed to be pink, but occasionally one has white meat. To the canneries, this is an aberration; to my people (Tlingat), a White Salmon is a delicacy. It has the best texture, the richest oils. If you really want to honor someone, you serve them White Salmon.

Like all good feast, the preparations begin in the early hours.

The feast itself starts with a salad …

… and progresses through the other condiments and preliminary courses …

.. until, finally, the main course is served.

The B-day boy gets his filling …

… and then invites the cooks to join in the feast.

    Andy (the hero photographer)

    Steve:

    Rod:

    Jeff:

At the end, we enjoy a look at the table …

… and started the clean-up process.

Thanks for the best B-day ever, guys!

(... and Kellie, you really should have been here!)

RAD. That's the first "Europe Scale" terrain I've seen in the States. Is this in the North Cascades?

    Looks like Switzerland!

See the picture of the parking lot? That's the lower lodge at Mt. Baker Ski Area...

Saw a crazy amount of tracks (and sketchy slides) out on Lake Anne area the last couple days as well. People are certainly getting after it...

Tim - i HAVE to ski with you! A friend of mine tricked me once by showing me a pic of Shuksan from the back side and I thought it was the Northern Selkirks. Happy birthday and glad you're feeling better

Watched you on your way down, I was extremely jealous. Stopped in to the lower lodge for a quick beer, and got to watch a couple guys hitting the kicker above chair 8, then some great lines on White Salmon.

That's funny! As we were hamming it up for the shot of four of us in front of our tracks, someone asked, "Do you think the maggots will like that one?". I said, "Nah, they'll think were nuts for standing around under that thing above us!"

Well, I liked everything else about that line, but having seen that thing break off at least once or twice each spring I don't think I'd be too thrilled to stop and ham it up under it! But next time you go out there... give me a call!

As soon as the Shannon Creek road is clear, I want to do this as a traverse from the Sulphide Glacier -- including a summit pyramid ski and then a drop down Hell's Highway to the White Salmon. You would be a welcome accomplice.
