    Rumor: Armada Spats

Tried search function, found nothing about Armada Spats.

Saw 4 skiers at Squaw on what appeared to be spat-like protos. Blank white topsheet, small ID number handwritten behind binding, capped, shape/size/camber looked almost identical to the good old Volant Spatula---like they did not try to improve/tweak the design much at all.

I asked one guy who makes his skis. He said Armada. That's all I got. Anyone heard anything?

So did you barely get your lone question in before they sped off on the chair, or as they went by on the traverse, or something, or was the guy purposely not talking?

I'm assuming you didn't just go "oh, okay, thanks" and take off.

At Alpine Meadows last Friday, I saw a all red topsheet spat type ski. From the lift, it looked smaller than the spatula.

    Any idea on this ski?

    yep.

If the guy was telling the truth, we still wouldn't know if Armada has plans to produce it for common folk.

I don't think it was a real Volant Spatula in disguise, although I would understand why a non-Volant-sponsored athlete might do that on a powder day like yesterday.

They do exist, haven't been out on them yet, but people have skied them and liked them.
Rumor is for a late season release or next year.
It's heartbreaking to see a chick who's too anorexic.

    Cool. Thanks Darkside.

I guess Armada is not worried about patent stuff, because from what I could see, the shape of these Armada protos did not differ much from Volant Spats.

Well if they're the same exact ski I'm not really excited about it. But if they do change something about it, I'd be interested in how Armada's compares. I never would have expected it out of Armada.

I don't think a lighter weight Spatula is necessarily a bad idea.

They actually have traditional sidecut underfoot unlike the spatulas. Just the tips and tails are tapered off. They share a reverse chamber with the spatulas as well.

I did not notice that, but I got only a quick look in the lift line. Sounds cool.

The pontoon has traditional camber for the center section of the ski. Dose this skis have this as well?

I have fondled the skis of which you speak. More like the Lotus than the spat.
