The usual 10 to 20 packed powder. We hit Loon yesterday. Conditions were good but it was corroded with people.Tomorrow is our last day here. My wife wants to finish at Bretton Woods. After today, I owe her that.

(after today, I'm looking forward to it)

Damn, Cannon's looking grim. VT's actually doing quite well. I just spent Fri-Tues at MRG and Sugarbush, and it was awesome.

There were spots where it was like this:

But after a day or two of snow, there was a lot where it was like this:

Ya it's real, real good up here at N. VT. Stowe is skiing pretty good, even up on the chin and way deep into the notch. (Trust me we've done a lot of post-holing in the last few days and its deeeeeeep). Everything has been baked by the sun since we've had a high pressure system bringing bluebird for the last 4days so the bottom part is skiing heavier and the top is more chalky and slabby/sloughy but its still real good. Another storm on top of this would be

It is pretty sad when conditions are so much worse in March then they were in December. When I was up at Cannon around Christmas they even had middle hardscrabble open ... it certainly wasn't that way the other day when I was up there.

I know you Easties laugh at what us Far Westies call Ice...

But yesterday at Squaw there were patches of rained on snow that had got frozen overnight, and were way different from our normal, hard-pack "ice".
You could actually turn on it, the rain had given it a surface texture, although when you first hit it you expected to be on your ass.
Pretty easy to spot, and avoid, luckily.

The snow is there

I've been using my dorm room as a base lodge for skiing recently, and within 1.5 hours from uvm, i've found bolierplate, but i also found thigh deep pow on the backside of jay, even a few spots where my pocket rockets were not wide enough. When in doubt, hike the chin and ski the notch, unless its been skied by more than 20 ppl, then its pain if you dont know where to go, and if you dont know where to go and you look for freshies, call SAR before you venture out there, kidding. good luck and remember, the ice just makes us stronger when we go out west

We usually hit Stowe several times a season. This year, we have done a little tour of NH. With the exception of Cannon, conditions are pretty good considering the lack of natural snow. It's amazing that Stowe/Jay always get the goods.

The shots of Vista Way from mrw dont't really show how bad Cannon is. That trail doesn't get any snowmaking. The worst is where they made snow, groomed the wet snow now it is frozen cat tracks.

This is the worst season at Cannon in many, many years. We skied zoomer and rocket in October, powder. We skied it again the days after thanksgiving, again in powder. December was good with some Mittersil runs, but since then, well, you all know.

Last week when VT got powder, Cannon got 7ish, but not enough to cover the woods.

That being said, I'll be there this weekend, cranking them out. Cause that's what I do.

I agree, but frozen cat tracks really don't show in the pics. 1st time here. I poked my nose into Mittersil ,like zero coverage.Even though coverage sucks, the place rocks. I will be back.

I agree, when cannon is good it is great, but when it is bad, it is the worst. Why do we go back? Skied Mardi Gras yet? That's why I go.

I don't I'm no weatherman, I just report what I see. I even had a few face shots today coming down off the Chin and deep in the notch in an undisclosed location .

The sad part is everytime I've been up there in the past week (like a handful of times) there have been people who had no idea what they were doing. For example today there were two kids (one carrying his skis one in each hand on the hike up) and another lone snowboarder who were like is this the top? I just rolled my eyes, asked if they had been up there before, then instructed them to take the bootpack back down or ski down profanity so they could keep the gondola in their vision the whole time. Ya, its the EC, you may not need to worry about avy danger as much, but getting lost is pretty easy since the trees can get dense and you can easily lose sight of where you are in relation to everything else.

That being said, it is good up there, the wind keeps filling/buffing everything up top and any new snow will just add to the quality. The very bottom near the notch road is another story. It's very light cover (read I sidestepped/hopped around lots of roots/dead leaf piles today and the past few days) but whatever, the top is worth the BS at the bottom.
