Sunshine will be closed Tuesday Jan 24, due to 2 cars falling off the gondy due to the wind. Yikes. I hope no one was hurt.

It was also closed today, so most likely noone was in them. Props to sunshine for closing it down, avoiding what could have been a MAJOR problem.

YIKES!!! Hopefully no one went for a ride in one of those.
The chinook blew in hard here in Calgary this morning. I though my freakin wall might blow in while I was lying in bed this morning.

Data from the Nakiska Ridgetop Weather Station, yesterday at 11 p.m.
"Wind WSW 155 gusting to 211 km/h."
I see that it has calmed down now with winds 62 gusting to 102.

Yesterday as I was approaching the ridgeline the wind almost blew me over. It was stong enough that it was hard to breath. I know from driving with my head out the sunroof that it gets hard to breath at about 80kph (50mph).Last edited by Beaver; 01-23-2006 at 09:47 PM.

Apparently most of the lifts in Fernie had to be shut down for wind today too, I heard the only one that ran this aft was the deer
You don't need freerides when you got freeheels

That's why I wear my helmet in the Gondola.

Speaking of lifts breaking down...
Here's how our day ended at Louise last Saturday when Ptarmigan crapped out at 3:30 p.m.
If you thought the old ski out was a pain on skis, try doing it on a snowboard while dodging hundreds of hapless beginners.

Holy! Then again, Ptarmigan is probably the chair I've spent the most time chilling out on when it has decided to crap out in my past 19 years of skiing, so it isn't really a surprise.
Believe.

Nakiska was crazy windy at the top of Gold on Sunday afternoon, so those numbers aren't surprising but wow 211 km/h that is intense. My girl and her sister were at Louise on Saturday and had to walk out the ski out, one on a snowboard, that would suck.

I see on the SSV website that the godola is "closed for maintenance." There's a happy euphamism for "the cars are flying off and crashing to the rocks below."
