The SIA 2006/2007 BIG skis thread

SIA's now in session, so here's the not-so-skinny on skis that will be well-appreciated by the TGR crowd... witness the return of the 190+ freeride ski

4FRNT: New pro-model for Eric Hjorleifson, the EHP. Two lengths: the old 190cm length of the VCT (129-104-121), and a 193cm with zero camber, stiffer flex and 130-112-118.

Armada: still the same with ANT and JP V Julien

Atomic: Big Daddy, obviously big news, goes to 145-125-129 in a 190. They also introduce the Thug, 140-120-133, twintipped in a 181 and 192. In spite of confusion before, the Sugar Daddy is still 99 underfoot (and goes to 193), and the new Snoop Daddy is 88mm in the waist. The Pimp is a separate ski form the Sugar Daddy, different graphics, 183 and 193 in length, 99 underfoot.

Dynastar: Introducing a Legend Pro Plus (132-109-122 in a 194)

    Elan: Introduces a fishtailed M1111 (161-121-141, in a 184) above the M999.

Fischer: Still Watea and Prohete (search)

    Head: Launches SuperMojo105 (131-105-122) in a 181 and 191, gets a twintip this year.

K2: Still MadeN AK (108 underfoot), and much has already been said about the Pontoon (154-130-120).

Line: Not here, but I believe still the Prophet (130 underfoot).

    Nordica: Blower is mid-season this year, 139-110-129 in a 185 and 193.

Rossignol: Introduces B-Squad for men and women. Discussed already, but basically two versions, a 100mm underfoot in 184 and below sizes, and 130-104-117 with a stiffer flex for 189 and 194 sizes.

Salomon: Gun LAB replaces the Gun (92-101 underfoot depending on length, 188cm longest), and introduces the X-Wing Sandstorm (two sizes, 173 and 187cm, 96mm and 101mm underfoot).

    Scott: Launches bigger in NA with the P4, 134-104-123 (171, 181, 191).

Volkl: Sumo (145-125-142) gets a 190 length, and the Gotama goes to 133-105-124 and gets a 197 length in addition. Sanouk unchanged, Mantra unchanged (new graphics)

the "gun lab" will be priced about the same as the gun from this year, and use non-race base and edges.

the sandstorm is basically a stiffer non-twinned gun lab

salomon also has some SICK new boots coming out next year (called the falcon). more anatomical than the course last. a shade wider in the forefoot, and a shade narrower in the heel. basically my personal dream some true...

WELL IT IS ABOUT DAMN TIME! Of course this happens right after I finally score a pair of Rossi Team skis. Oh well, they will be sufficiently used/abused by the time I can get my hands on next years skis

edit: Oh BTW any K2s longer than 189s this year? They have talked about it for 2 or 3 seasons now, but I have yet to see anything but protos. Some 195 AK Maidens would be really fun, despite how lame the graphics are.....

    Good stuff!

Interested to see the 193 EHP, 194 LPP, and definitely the Squads.

195 Made'ns would be schweet, but I can't see K2 selling too many pairs of them although I'd take a pair in a heartbeat...especially if they were a tad stiffer.

The 06 Gotama is 133-105-124, has lower-profile tail, and most importantly...will be available in a 197 cm.

    The Sanouk returns unchanged.

    The Mantra returns unchanged.

The Aura is a women's Mantra...same sidecut, but lighter.

Sumo does indeed get a 190 length.

    190 Sumo = pure sex

197 Got = pure sex except for the lowered tail and additional sidecut

The more I think about it, at 197, the bigger tail isn't necessary. However, I'm still partial to the lesser sidecut.

But I dont have a big fat "Rush" button on the left. So would it be okay to just reply with "Whoopee"?

Yes you can! My man on the inside mentioned new look P64 bindings. Starts at 55 and goes to you know where, more than enough power to lever something that big on the ice.

Bindings with those kinds of settings have been available for years. All you have to do is race WC Downhills and you can even get Markers that go into the 30s. The easier way to find them is search ebay for old downhill skis and buy them just for the bindings. Amazing how many Salomon 997s are out there that go to 28.....

No, I believe it'd be the 193 Sugar coming out.

But yes, still not the old BD.

However, with a 190+ Sugar and the 190+ new BD, you'd have a pretty nice quiver...

I want a big, fat, stiff ski in a 180 size, is there such a thing?

Doesn't that make the Sanouk a little out of place? Especially with the Sumo finally living up to its namesake?

Hot skis next year for sure!

OK, I heard 110mm waist on the Gotama, which would have made it less sidecut. Well, even with the heavier cut the 197 length (which coupled with the lower tail would probably make it like a 10cm longer ski that this years 190) might still be worth considering.

Squaretail, can you say anything about Gotama construction and flex?

gotama and sanouk are really different sticks. Beside the swallowtail, IMVHO sanouks are much sweeter, with a much more efficient spatula
