Carve boards - because it's now summer

I rode one of these the other night and it was so much like snowboarding. I'm hooked! The shop owner who is a 40 year old skier (never boarded) got on one and I talked him down the hill, "complete your turn accross the fall line."
I filmed him in his sandles while he made a perfect run! I was behind him on another skateboard. He was hooked! Nobody fell because they are so stable. I was whacking turns off by my third run.
Whack, whack, big cutback... whack, whack, another big stylee cutback tail graba....

I rode the big wheel one which was so loose in the shop, I thought it was lame. Once I got on a hill, it all made sense. Now I want to try the smaller wheels for quicker turns. The big wheel one was effortless and so idiot proof, even the skier could do it!
$350 though...dooohhh

You should check out the freeboard, I've never ridden one but they look pretty sick, apparently you can ride it like a snowboard on pavement, sorta like that tierney board with regular trucks also.

Hey Baconzoo-

That is the hill I thought you guys would be on. I got my mtn bike up to 55 on that hill, from the top. Just watch out for people pulling out of their driveways. If you are looking for a real thrill, take the road outta town toward Salamanca. Head towards Olean, the back way. That hill is massive, and another biking favorite of mine.

We got a shop deal on a bunch of Sector Nines, when I lived in Boulder. I got the concave Cadillac carving model(can't remember the name).We used to bomb 9th St. from the top(I lived on Dewey Ave) to bottom(Pearl St.) at about 3 am. Scary shit, if you know that hill. I still don't know how I didn't die. That board was sick. I can't remember it ever feeling like it was wobbling. Even at 35 mph, that thing was solid. The forntside carve at the bottom of the hill was always interesting, depending how much road sand had collected there.

I have the most fun on my longboard hitting parking decks. If you can find one that doesn't get used at night (at a school or only for commuters, etc.) and bring some beer, bud, and buddies - chinese downhill on the way down and elevator ride up. Super fun. I also like to poach ones - points for difficulty/high security. I nailed the corncob/House of Blues building here in chicago last summer.

Gonzo- You're a beantowner right? Ever skate the Arnold Arboretum? El souper seek. Also Woods Hole on the Cape (my sometime home) is an all-day skate (half a dozen nice long hills, high property taxes-anually paved roads).

Lastly- anyone know of fluid trucks? They have the giant red bushing (a fistsize ball of a bushing)? Mine are pushing 8 years old and I love them. Want to just replace the bushing but I canno find nowhere.

Shit... this is all kind of killin' me as I'll be rehabing a repaired shoulder all summer. No bombing for me. Mellow cruisey turns it is.

So I'm trying to learn photography...but I don't know my F-stops. So I asked Brooks(Photography Major) who runs Double Diamond to help me by shooting with my camera and explaining what he was doing. Thing were going well.


We started getting jiggy with effects


I was cutting some pretty hard turns but more action was needed so I started pointing it.



Now I'm 36 years old and a Father of three. "Getting too radical" is hard to explain to my Co-Workers at a local major Industry. "Nice scabs!" is what I'll hear come monday. Knee to palms to elbow to shoulder to entire back.

I just went longboarding today at a pretty sweet parking garage in San jose. 8 Floors of pure bliss, plus an elevator to take us back up to the top. I have a Loaded Vanguard set up with Randall 180's and Abec 11 Gumballs, best ride I've ever had. I've longboarded for a few years now and I'd have to say that loaded boards are far and beyond the best I've ever ridden. Way better than sectors, or even landyachtz.

Slalom ski anyone? I see this kid around campus with like a 20 year old slalom ski on wheels. It looks bad ass.

I don't skate but I did wakeboard. I would assume it's relatively easy to pick up longboarding (and worth the dough for the fix), eh? I have rollerblades at home, but I just don't think I could drop in parallel, or ride it switch on rollerblades. At least not in public.
