Denveradoans: Resturant Suggestions
I usually take my dates to My Brothers Bar for a grilly, corndog and a shot of Jameson but as my parents are in town, I'd like to kick it up a notch [/el]. Uptown/ Downtown prefered. Small portion overpriced metrosexual bistros need not apply.
What ya got?

Wilshire: Good/Great fine dining. Sneak in a round first?
Cafe Berlin: Sweet German Eats
Strings: Purty upscale but good the last time I was there
The Avenue Grill: Solid food
Bastian's (sp? pronounced Bas-tea-ahn's) on Colfax: Classic denver steak place. Take your folks back to the daring 50s.
Red Square "European" Bistro (read Russian): Writer Square, get the appetizer that has smoked salmon. not particularily authentic russian, good vodka/beer selection
Little Russian Cafe: Sweet russian food, good vodka selection, good beer selection and the funniest restroom picture ever (Orchard and University)
Sansone's Bistro: Continental style food. Great, old style restruant. If you like Souflee (my favorite dessert) order it with your entree, they take a long time to cook. (orch/uni)
Sushi Boat: IMVHO the best sushi place in town (I-25&hwy 285). Way laid back scene, always have great fish, good prices. Not HIP!
Village Cork: Just wine, cheese and appetizers....doh sorry, that is a date place not for the parents (okay you could take them there but it is a panty melting place)
pagliachis? The italian place a little south of 38th right off I-25: Real good italian food
Carmine's on Penn (Just south of speer): real good italian food.
I could go on but will stop. How bout picking a genre?

The Oyster Bar at Jax in Lodo has worked out well for me. If you really want to impress them Carmine's on Penn is always a sure bet. It's the best Italian food you'll find in Denver hidden in the middle of Wash Park.

Lemon - you hit about 5 of my top 10. Strings, the Av. and Carmines especially.
Lurch - Not that it matters but Ellsworth is def not Wash Park. East of Downing is da park AKA jog bra central. Also, I little to late to try and impress the rent. They've been dealing with my shit for 30+.
keep 'em coming.

and....
whatever the italian place is underneath the Hotel Monaco (17th between curtis and champa). Best calamari in town (IMVHO). Panzano! that's the name.
it may be pretensious and the food may be a little sub-that-level-of-pretension but Ellingtons is a rents pleaser. Head to the ship tavern for Chimay on tap?

Lemon, keep dropping the knowledge. Moms not much a warm flesh type, prefers the ethnic food. MDs is the shiz!! Good call on the Ship's/ Brown for cocktails although Dad may feel like he's on a business trip. Lots o power suits in that place.

Why didn't you say ethnic food? Damn dude!
How about the indian place between logan and grant on 6th? that place rules.
Fish place? in that same strip mall as Sansone's is a good little place, no idea the name. (I know both are sorta south for you too)
Also, the Sushi Boat has a good selection of japanese dishes as well.
Shit, ethnic is tough cause when I go tribal it is usually kind of divy...
There are some really good ethiopian places off colfax. Again, not upscale (but not too divy either).
All the "ethnic" places downtown are just fucking jo-do central. If you really want downtown, I'd send you to Red Square. And the russian cafe I mentioned at orc/uni has very good russian food (I should know eh ) without tooooooo much meat.
She doesn't require vegetarian does she?
For a great (but again divy) lunch take them to Oshima Ramen House in Tamarack Square (you'll never look at Ramen the same again). <--- closed mondays
At least the ship's clears out the suits in the evenings. Too bad the vent system sucks at the Palace Arms cause it is a cool bar too.
Are your folks kind of hipsters? they might dig checking out the Cruise Room in the Oxford Hotel (caddy corner from Jax) for drinks.

Sushi Den is one of the best sushi restaurants I've been to, NYC, SF included.
Carmine's on Penn - Italian
Cherry Creek Grill
Little french place near Gov's Park.
Buckhorn is sweet, Colorado Liquor License #1.
Wash Park Grill
Thai Basil on Alameda
Good Indian place in Tamarac Square, as well as the one on 6th and Speer.
Take 'em to Boulder and go to L'Atelier.

Coming from NYC, my folks were not really looking for high end in Denver, and consequently they REALLY enjoyed going to the places that I normally go. Places where the napkins come in a steel box on the table. These two rank up there, and they're definitely worth the trek.
Tacos de Jalisco - widely regarded as the best Mexican in Denver
J's Noodles - widely regarded as the best Thai in Denver
I'd also give a strong vote to any of the Highlands restaurants. Bang is hipster, down home food. Like fancy meatloaf and things like that. Stella's makes their own pasta. The Coral Room's food and atmosphere are way better than you'd imagine for a strip mall eatery. Mead Street is fun and lively, but probably too boisterous for a parental meal. Swim Club is trendy in a cozy way, but is probably too pretentious.
Near Zuni and Speer, La Loma is purty good. They make good margaritas anyway.
Jack and Grill at 28th and Federal makes New Mexican cuisine. It's a slight twist on standard Mexican fare and they are famous for their HUGE portions. Try the Mexican hamburger-- it's about 8-inches in diameter.
Damn, I'm hungry now...

Homer- try the sushi boat. Fish is just as good (better) ZERO denver jobag scene. Tell them you want an Onami roll (spicy tuna roll with seaweed on top).

Pinner- Where is Tacos de Jalisco?
We usually go to Tacos de Colima at Evans and Bway. It is very good mex food, one of the few places serving ceviche too.

Tacos de Jalisco = 38th Street, just east of Tennyson.
I'll take you there after a round at Willis Case sometime.

Foggy, one thing we're lacking out here is good mex or tex-mex. I know tex-mex is frowned upon as 2nd rate fusion cuisine by the foodsnobbery, but when you're missing it, you're MISSING it. We've got Italian and decent seafood, some great chinese and ethiopian, indian, and thai, but no good mexican.
If that helps.
I would have been happy to hold down the fort in your folks place! That building is rad.
And the view:

As far as a $5 steak goes, yes.
But when I'm in that hood I tend to swing by Jerusalem for a shwarma or maybe Pete's for a patty melt. Used to enjoy Anthony's, but not so much anymore.
Which reminds... Proto's pizza on Platte Street is a very tasty place and totally parent friendly. I hadn't noticed, until I was there awhile back with a meat-hating girl, but most of the menu is vegetarian. Highly recommend the pizza margherita with a caesar salad and a bottle of Stella Artois.
GODAMMIT I'M HUNGRY!!!

don't forget Enzos for Pizza...
Oh and while some people unaccountably don't like it, I really dig the za at Wazee. Like the bar too.
