    Translating Gotama Symbols...

Anyone versed in the language that's scribbled all over my skis? I'd like to know what's said on the sticks I'll be carrying around all winter.
"Do not believe that he who seeks to comfort you lives untroubled among the simple and quiet words that sometimes do you good. His life has much difficulty and sadness and remains far behind yours. Were it otherwise he would never has been able to find those words." ~ Rilke

Strikes me as being in the same alphabet as Sanskrit, on which I once had a better grip than I do now. Anyone have any pics of the text itself?

it wasn't directed at you, but the originator of the thread. I was playing the third-person peanut gallery onlooker.

I thought the JONGing was funny considering the source.

I love that movie. As for the writing, I have no idea, but Gotama was Buddha's last name, so if you are looking for an origin of the writing, I'd look to the SE asia area.

Not exactly a "major", but idle-curiosity-driven interest. I'm the Yeti, I'm from the abode of snows:

Due to the brutal texas 'joinging' I recieved above, I fell into a deep, morbid depression. Thus, lying on the floor in self-lacerating and sickening humiliation, by sheer force of logic, I knew I must redeem myself. I then embarked upon a quest for the truth... I went to the souce - that is - I went to Volkl. Here is their reply:

    ---------
    Justin,
Unfortunately, I can't be the one to clear up that little mystery for
you. It's sort of like the "33" on a Rolling Rock label...nobody
    really knows...
    Thanks for choosing our skis.
Thank you for your interest in Volkl.

    Volkl Ski Guru
    ---------

Alas, what am I to do? What - indeed, what - does this mean? Is the Volkl-guru of Buddah himself not able to furnish me with the knowlege for which I yearn? And what of the meaning of life? Should not the translation of a few symbols be, if the grand scope of things, a simple task for a god or prophet? Has truth and knowlege vanished. Oh - woe is me, jongee of texas and beholder of brittle-sidewall skis. Can no one lift this blanket of despair from mine eyes?

See that red writing up toward the tip? That says "Volkl."

    Glad I could help.
