    Salomon Sentinel

    Me:

    6'3"
    220lbs
    consider myself an "aggressive" skier
    skiing for 30+ years

Other skis i have skied or own:
    194 Dynastar LP's
    191 matte black gotama
    186 Moment Comi
    191 Sallie Czar
    190? Sallie Rocker

    Sentinel
191 129-96-122 (seemed like about an 18m turn radius). Get this...with a VERTICAL SIDEWALL

Skies pretty much did everything "well". With a slight rocker in the tip and a flat tail it made them pretty true to running length. Skied a mix of hardish groomers, off piste with some crust underneath, and by days end about 5" of fresh with tracked out on the groomed trails.

These things railed on the hardpack...could make any type turn i wanted without really having to work too hard. Long GS type turns...DONE. Short slalom type turns...DONE...bumps...not great but easily manageable.

These things felt super stable at speed, no tip flap at all from the rocker. Absolutely killed it in the crud. Had decent float in the 5" or so we got during the day.

I will take them out this weekend again and see what they do after the warmer temps expected this week.

First " review" on here so let me know if I left anything out.

    Enjoy.

This is Salomon's attempt to compete against the Volkl Mantra, K2 Backside, Rossignol SC97, etc. (ie: moderately stiff charging skis between 90-100mm without a twin tip.) A popular category at my shop with Dentists, Accountants, and Ski Patrollers.

Video here. Hopefully this will ski better than the (IMHO) timid and boring Solomon Lord and/or Shogun. Sidewall construction should help.

Agreed this ski will appeal mostly to the weekender who wants a "ski i can ski out west once a year".....the graphics are spot on and appeal to the "masses".

    Good solid ski.

Bump - Any updates on these? Been spending a lot more time skiing with my younger ones this year (translate - more time on groomers) and think I might have a need for a ski like this. Had 184 Mantras (red ones) a few years ago, and the slight rocker on the Sentinel peaks my interest on these. Appreciate any additional info or Mantra comparisons (assume they are pretty similar).

I recently had a buddy who was skiing his 184 mantras when he visited. The dukes broke...and he needed a backup. I was able to grab some 190+ sentinels and he LOVED them....I think its a good comparison. I think you'd like them for groomer days and middle of the road pow days.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the note. Someone must have returned a pair of 184's to REI, because I found a pair online today for just over $300. Looking forward to skiing something with a flat tail and some beef to it this spring. I saw that O2 gear shop had them for pretty cheap, but I know those guys have a bit of a hot and cold reputation.
