Belated TR: Zermatt Playground

March 14th
Zermatt, Switzerland
Skiers: Griffin Post, Henrik Windstet, Xavier de Le Rue, Me (Drew Tabke)
All photos: Jancsi Hadik

I was at Tignes, France doing an FWT competition and was presented with the opportunity to go to Zermatt with Nicholas Hale-Woods, head FWT organizer. The purpose of the trip was to do some recon for a possible future FWT event at Zermatt. So I woke up early the morning after the competition (and party), met up with Griffin Post and we piled our gear into Nicholas' auto. We tore across the Alps, through Chamonix, and got to Zermatt in time for afternoon coffee.

The next morning we met up with some local guides and went to ski and shoot the prospective face. Griffin and I consider our options.

Henrik post-stomp.

Me up top.

And exiting.

Griffin Post. He nearly broke his leg on this air, honestly. He landed on hard snow, well out of frame, and shin banged so bad he couldn't ski for a couple weeks.

Xavier.

Phew that was hard. Need lunch.

A couple more runs with full bellies.

I left with the distinct feeling that Zermatt lacks suck.

Nice Drew. Zermatt is definitely not the suck, unless it is pure white out. But then again I have seen some nice gogo dancers in the bar when that was the case. Gnarwhale beat me to it on the rock avoidance, and Griffin's air looks rather large, glad it was not worse.

Only skied there a day - but Zermatt clearly has a *lot* of potential...

Frickin expensive though - it makes Verbier look scummy & cheap
