Slide Near the Eiseman Hut 1.16.09

Does anyone have any further information on this slide? According to CAIC...

"The most significant and recent avalanche was a complete triple burial on a southeast through southwest aspect at treeline, occurring on Friday near the Eiseman hut. The avalanche was over 600 yards wide and 1 to 10 feet deep. All three of the victims were completely buried and dug their way out. One used an Avalung to assist breathing. All were unhurt."

Seemed pretty amazing that all three victims were completly buried and dug their way out??? No word on the CAIC site whether a full accident report will be released. Also just curious on the specific location.

Thoughts or info anyone? Glad to hear everyone was OK.

rontele and i were just talking about this today

our best guess is that it happend in that drainage just to the east of the hut, about 2 saddles to the north...probably from that peak

    this is just a guess

if anyone has more info we'd really be interested

    wow wow wow

I still want to hear specifics, but simply amazing. I kind of thought some of this was Avalung propaganda but I'll probably be getting one soon.

Wow, that is unbelievable - thankfully no one was seriously hurt. Avalungs came through for everyone, all burials over an hour!

The CAIC report will be done tomorrow and posted. This account seems to be lacking all the facts. But who knows.

Who knows is right. Unless you interviewed all involved and been to the scene or were there, I don't believe a god damn thing I've read about this incident other than a bunch of folks fucked up big time. There are so many things that don't add up it's ridiculous. I wish the party involved would come public with their own account. It would probably serve them, and many other people, a lot of good.

I would wait for the CAIC site and see what they say. The number conflictings facts I've heard about this mind-boggling. I'd just wait for some type of "official report" and see what it says.

    slide

    These were friends of mine.

This is what they told me:

All 3 were snowboarders. They were skinning up to reach a ridge and traverse it to some good lines. The avalanche occurred well uphill of all 3. They saw it coming down and attempted to run from it. One guy was running in his snowshoes away from the slide and when he realized he was being overtaken he put his avalung in his mouth and was subsequently beat to shit, whiplash, bruising and general beat down, then felt himself snag in a tree well. He was 9 feet under the snow. One of the others was completely buried and the 3rd was partially buried. The 3rd, now a hero and bad ass in my mind, unburied himself, located the 2nd with his beacon and dug him out within 15 minutes, the victim was blue and slow. He then located the 1st, and proceeded to dig the 9 ft down under the snow. The victim was unburied after approx. 35 minutes. He was also blue and slow as well as beat to shit with whiplash and bruising. Amazing he was well alive. This does indeed seem a case where the avalung may have saved his life.

Holy shit. That's a gnarly story. Being able to do that under the stress of having been buried yourself is intense. That dood deserves beers for life and then some from his buddies. That guy can dig too. 9 feet down is deep, especially after digging yourself and another guy out first.
