This ski caught my eye one day in the shop, I fondled it a little, flexed it, dropped it, listened to its vibrations - my observations led me to order a pair based on pure "I have a good feeling about this ski". I needed something for those in between days, where you are skiing a bit of everything - such as: crud, soft bumps, a groomer, some tress where you find a couple of dense pow turns - but primarily I wanted these for destroying cruddy mank at high speeds.
Myself: 5'10" - 158lbs (naked)
Ski: 132-94-119 @ 180cm (made in a 187 as well)
Construction: Similar to the Monster series, but no liquid metal, no intelligence chip. I'm not sure what the metal is (have found 0 information on this), a standard sheet, or something else, I guess I don't really care - it's metal and it is good. Being a twin-tip, the flex pattern is more twin-tippy (a more rounded flex, softer in the tail). Compared to the Monster line, a touch softer throughout the entire ski, especially in the tail (which is why I chose this over a Monster, wanted something a touch more forgiving, more versatile, e.g. 'switch to the road'). However, this is not a soft ski, actually, this is the stiffest twin-tip I have skied - very similar flex to a Mantra it seems.
Shape: The sidecut is very Mantra-like, I think the best way to describe this ski is "a super damp mantra, with less liveliness" If you haven't skied a Mantra - the Mojo has a good bit of shape from tip-to-waist, then straightens out a bit in the tail. What does this mean? It means the shape rules! Very, very fun on edge - yet manageable (no hooking up in the tails) on fall line terrain.
Random commentary: This ski prefers speed, naturally, at speed you just do that shit-eating grin thing - but surprisingly, is quick at low speeds (healthy sidecut up front) so long as you are not letting the Mojo kick your ass. In softish bumps, pretty quick for a 94mm waist, not forgiving if you get pushed back. Yes this is a twin-tip, no this is not a park ski imo. Floats just fine in firmish not deep pow, if there is more than 6 inches fresh, I would ski something wider likely, for the first half of the day at least.
I have always loved the Mantra shape, but hate that "ting"y feel. This ski solves that problem, SUPER DAMP with way way fun shape. However, a bit heavier.
Ideally, I would weigh about 5-10 more pounds, this ski wears me out at the end of the day. This is not a con, I prefer to keep getting stronger.
edit: seems to keep getting easier to ski on, could have a break-in to it, or my legs are back
All for now.
edit: Went to Loveland one day when they reported 4" - so I brought these up instead of my Czars - well, if you know Loveland, I ended up skiing every condition possible on the same day - wind blown bullet proof, to ~12" + of semi-light pow in the leeward trees, to WTF three foot wall of drift. These skis were perfect for the variety - again, seriously destroy chop, you don't notice too much when you cross a track - I could pressure the tip in the pow and it still floated well at speed. I can say that it "gets by" in deeper snow - not quite as fun as the new age of true pow skis - duh.
I just mounted a pair of 193 Mojo 90s and had the same thoughts on them compared to my Mantras. Definitley a fun ski but the Mantra's wider tip gives it more lively feel.
The Mojo makes for a great crud ski. My first time out I was in about a foot of new snow and it felt great.
I mounted it right on the (recommended) line. Which is further back than most twin tips, but forward of traditional - it feels perfect - no regrets whatsoever mounting it here. If someone spends more time in the park, they would likely want to go forward a cm or two.
Just mounted up my 187s with RF2 plates on the line, and yeah, the factory line is further back than my 9thward 180 FBs, which are mounted back 7.5mm.
I'll report back in December when I get on it.
I demo'd these at whistler on one of those bullet proof days that had a inch or two or fresh sprinkling of snow. the best run i had was skiing down a narrowish shute that had some moguls and they performed really well when hoping arround. i really liked the ski but it was too long for me at times. plus they were super dull, so any carving was just turned into a slarve....
overall:
fun
quick when wanted
actually pretty turny
and would be a great everyday ski when it is not bullet proof days for the old race gs skis.(but if they were sharper when i demo'd them i think they would have ripped gs turns)
