I have been lurking on here for weeks hoping for an in depth review of the new Motherships in 185. Anyone have more than a few minutes on this ski yet?
I currently ski:
1st GEN Legend Pros 186 - everyday, all mountain
1st GEN Legend Pro XXL 194 - everyday all mountain when there's some fresh
Atomic Pimp 183 - for touring
I am interested in the new Mothership 185 because it's stiff, is a bit wider and shorter than the XXL as well as it has an early rise tip. We don't get enough snow to justify a full rocker ski.
I concur with PowTron, it is a sweet ski. I had them for a day in January at Stowe, they were definitely stiff and super stable. If you like XXL's you're gonna really like the Moship.

No in depth review here, but I skied one run on them and thought they were pretty nice. Medium stiffness, but super stable and turned easy (on groomers). Lots of potential in that ski.
I´ll offer up some data, seeing that the flexcurves have not been presented yet this year, and they may not come this year as they take a lot of effort to make, and Endre is very busy.
Measured stiffness in numbers, with a few benchmarks. Stiffness is given as a row of five single numbers, starting at the tail, ending at the tip. 1 means super soft, 9 means super stiff:
hey those numbers look way different thank the flex chart numbers for last year--ex pontoon unchanged for 2009 34643-ant slightly softened front shovel 45554 those numbers come from --official ski weight thread page 4 link friflyt 2008----?
Think old school Rossi Axiom with a bit more sidecut. I only spent one day on them, but they are chargers. A bit lacking in the float dept but amazing on groomers and crud and everywhere you have some room to go fast. Not your ski for tight icy moguls, but that should be obvious.
I wondered about float problems but I have absolutely no float problems on the XXL's which are skinnier.
Any particular reason they didn't float for you Rip? I love the 194 XXL so much that I thought about getting the 187 just to have some versatility. If I am going to add a ski to the quiver, I'd rather it be something a little bit different.
I think it was more due to me just not being able to get them up to a speed where they could plane. I only skied them for one day, and there was about 6-8 inches of new snow over some pretty shitty crusty snow so you couldn't really open it up without getting bucked around by the lurking ice moguls. Also they had marker demos on them and even with them cranked all the way up I pre-released a few times so I was skiing a little more cautious than usual. That is where they felt very similar to the axiom, or w105, or any stiff ski. You get a tip diving type feeling at lower to mid speeds. They are really stiff, I don't know what the dude above skis every day to say these are medium flex, but they are some beefy skis. Like literally twice as thick as any other ski Line makes. I would want a different ski on a bottomless day, but these would be great for pretty much anything else. Absolutely a blast in crud and chop and I was having fun carving up a storm with them on groomers.
I have only skied the 194 XXL, but compared to the mothership the XXLs felt more planky and not as stiff as the mo'ships. Similar crud busting ability, but the mothership just felt more lively everywhere else. They really snap out of turns. I would really like to try the 195 mothership as that would probably be a more fair comparison to the 194 XXL.
185 moships
me: 5-8 175.
conditions: creamy goodness with a mix of 6-12 of fresh (from previous day) cut up soft crud.
As some know, I broke my fibula seven weeks ago, had a plaster cast on for four weeks, just got it off thursday,
anyway today was both my first day back and first day on motherships. My fibula was throbbing and is not fully healed so I only took two runs, and the majority of that was on one leg, with the hurt leg just lightly skipping on top of the snow.
Without question, this is one of the greatest skis ever.
Even on mostly one leg, it was obsurdly stable, stiff as fuck, yet still decently playful and not crazy hard to turn.
Also, one of the most balenced skis I have ever been on. Dukes mounted at midsole, is absolutely perfect. You feel in total control of the ski, and for me it allowed me to get into my ski position without any adjustment, it put me at perfect natural stance for aggressive skiing.
two weeks of rehab and further healing, and I will be touring for some more goodness on these things.
They are heavy however, but once you power them up. Who the fuck cares. I will be buried with this skis.

Do you guy's think that the 195 will be to long for me at 170 lb? I'm VERY well trained and have very strong legs thanks to my hockey carrier. I'm a very good skier and want to have it as a charger ski that works in all condition to compliment my 185 rev/rev powder skis?
Edit: I also have a 184 Mantra and do want a longer, stiffer and wider ski. That's why I look at the 195 moship.

If you have to ask, it is too long...
