TR: 4/26/08 - Colo Longboard Day

    Okay.

First things first: Marshal Olson – THANK YOU! Seriously, dude went way way way out of his way to get the mounts done. Much appreciated.

Thanks to all that came out for this year, like 10 times as many people as last year.

Now a word from our Spancers:

A note, the blush is the favored flavor for spring skiing.

A special thanks to our marquee spancer without your help fellas, none of this would be possible:

And now onto the meat! Oh wait, we have to have music now too don’t we?
    Sountrack:

    you know it nancy!

The anchovy…is a lot smaller than my pickup and loading the BATTLEFLEET INTERGALACTIKAZ (“the battlefleet”) takes some careful packing

The first thing in the AM crew, the balance of the rides and some gratuitous product placement

About a minute after this I had a shot of tequila...so things were looking good despite the howling storm.

lift rides are long with longboards weighing you down.

    First run bunch

Note the p-poser in the back there who went from zero to hero in about 8 seconds when zappa convinced “George” to loan out some 218 Rossi Ladies DH boards (just like the VASectomizers but with MRRs and a little longer).

This is how a lot of the first half of the day looked like, C-Free getting his whiteout on with a backpack full of fireworks and Hamm’s

The only picture of telepariah I snapped before he disappeared for the day with the 222 Buzzards. That crazy bastard skied em all day and at the end of the day gave me a big hug and thanked me for their use? I would be broken a lot worser than I am if I’d tried such a thing.

New rule- No coming down directly on top of the photographer on LBD!

It’s Loveland so I have a lot of gangbang shots, which you’re going to get to see. Sadly patrol never opened the ridge so…whatever

Oh look, Dside is in front of everyone, how novel!

    Yeah bubba!

I’m thirsty, we should stop for a minute or ten.

    Daywalker gettin his railyard on:

CG grits his teeth and mutters the Bene Gesserit litany against fear, to wit:
    "I must not fear.
    Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
    I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
    Only I will remain."

Squatchmo and Daywalker discuss how fucking rad they are…or are not as the case may be

Do you need more music? if so…you know the drill.

The other thing I have a bunch of beyond the group gropes is Zappa sequences of him just fucking ripping. For real, pretty much the only guy who comes even close to the pure kill on longboard day is telepariah:

Me? I have an irrevocable lifetime license to suck

    These two= GAG!

Actually, have fun in the butte.

And now, a little series I like to call “sometimes you’re…”

(Marlin- nonmag on the 211 7Gs) - Sometimes you’re the windshield

    Sometimes you’re the bug

SydVicous in A-bowl. (+Marlin, the bug still)

    Mmmmm Carlo Rossi Blush!

Squatch it too young to know what a “Benejizzerit” is and instead is just hoping that those bitches come around for him. Looking remarkably like the bat-

    And…sometimes yer the ball-

Daywalker brings you a very special “Sometimes you’re…”

    Sometimes you’re the “gamble”

Hey Zappa, is this what a jet turn looks like? I don’t know I never saw one before

And sometimes you’re the “gamble and lose”

Couteau tee’s up a sequence on the Head 220s (“…the burliest skis I’ve ever seen in my entire life.” – M. Olson)

Oh and dside- I’d have a rad sequence of the 25 hop turns you did down this pitch if you’d have announced your intention to ski first…thanks buddy.

Zappa’s brother Pete, he also knows how to make his skis do the funky chicken:

Uglymoney!?! this is longboard day, not walk down A-bowl like a fucking gaper day:

    Oh…nevermind: PROPS!

(ugly and his buddy crazy Terry rocked the E99s for a surprisingly long time…another thing I will not be caught doing, goddamn!)

BTW, while I’ve been doing this and biglines has been running really slow I keep getting these giant shots on my computer of my friend Noah who is in the stupid BD avalung ad…it’s pretty much just a giant shot of his snot crusted nose…it wouldn’t be so bad if I didn’t know who it was or if it was a cute girl…but I do and it isn’t.

    Longboarding is thirsty work:

And then, we took a brief interlude to shoot some fireworks
Pete lines up a MISSLE! (these things went like 1000’ give or take..up across back down…very exciting)

    Liftoff!

Montanaskier thinks to himself…I hope I don’t get hurt doing this, that’d be dumb

Do you need more music? if so…you know the drill.

Here’s a biggish sequence starring a few people, Squatch, P-McP and Daywalker titled:
    Sometimes you’re the bull
    And sometimes you’re the steer

(pay attention to all participants in the photos)

    Daywalker may be a steer…but so is P-McP :

    C-Free gets his rally on

Gordy would be proud of how hard Daywalker leads with the hands

And the Coup de Grace! CHINESE MOTHERFUCKIN DOWNHILL BITCHES!

Dexter flew all the way in from new jork or some fucking place to beat everyone but he cheated and used disapproved skis, Dside took the top kudos this year on man skis. Congrats dude.

    Jeers

Do you need more music? Again? Damn…you read slow.

To close, as with last year just another sequence of Zappa full on tearing it up…from the railyard:

    Thanks All!

Since i apparently suck at action shots, here are some long-board shots.

The last line-up was enough to attract the attention of RSN reporter and cameraman (film at 11???)

Thanks to all for making this happen. Lemon Boy, Frank Zappa, MARSHALOLSON!!!!

    Quite a time.

I know this is the arse of LemonBoy's fartbag

CG with Zappa in hot pursuit

    The Zappa

    Squatch

    Good skiing with you all!

Of course, the focus of longboard day, the longboards:

Next, ghetto alcohol (Me with the bota and rossi)

McPoser borrows a 40 of OE from Zach (?) as Squatch looks on with envy

And, of course, hitting up the parking lot for Hamm's breaks

Third, fireworks. Why fireworks? I have no idea. Zappa's brother was the ringleader/pyro extraordinaire. He's the one front and center lighting them with a cigarette...

There were a few decent sized fireworks that went straight up

And then McPoser tried to shoot some of us with bottle rockets.

After bottle rockets started flying past our ears, we decided to continue skiing.

    A bit of A-Bowl carnage:

Our visiting Midwesterner, uglymoney, was game for the big sticks, but an equipment failure put him on Bro's for the rest of the day.

This guy (Zach?)[C-Free] could rip the longboards, even with a 25 lb pack of fireworks and beer.

    Lemonboy successfully breaking his Botabag.

That's all I've got, more/better pics will surely follow.

Nice work boys and girls. The Chinese Downhill is a super rad touch.

Seanyob, HI shirts still are lame. You made the right call by not wearing one.

Yes, you should've been chastised for wearing a Hawaiian shirt at KW LBD.

and where were you? BTW- I don't think that 666 has put his up yet (unless I'm blind/drunk/stupid or all three) and have no illusions given the teaser picture. It'll be strong.

And that is the whole point! Taking an inside joke outside and not even caring that you and everyone you're skiing with looks like an A-1 dork.

LB: there is no KW LBD TR just yet, but I'm sure it's in the works. And from what I hear from the PNW crew, they should have a strong contender as well. However, this isn't about "who makes the best TR", it's about "look how much fun we had being complete idiots". It's like a freeskiing contest where there are no rules, no categories for judging (except the 210cm rule and bonus points for outfits) and everyone wins!

Edit #2: Are Utards too cool to put on a LBD? Have they ever pulled one together?

Saw you guys from the chair one run, Zappa fucking owned the long sticks. I'd be stoked if I could ski even close that well on cheater shaped skis.

    Agreed.

And beyond Utah, why can't the east coasters put one on for themselves. I'm calling Dexter out for organizing their's next year now that he's seen the pure awesome.

    Hell yeah!

I even received a phone call from the CO hosts...if SQ99 had the thing yesterday, it would have been a 3-way call of western Bermuda Triangle of long boarding.

My laptop is still processing the RAW images from the 43 cameras we had rolling....all I can say at this point is....hold on.

Seriously, no harm no foul. I pretty much just realized as you were headed at me that I was standing out in the total open while about 25 people with exactly 15 minutes in the last 15 years on longboards started heading right for me.

Mike- No problem really. Next year Charlie is going to have to take them, he'll make them things do his bidding.

    Total carnage:
1 ruptured bota bladder: RIP my trusty carlo rossi blush toting friend.
1 really pulled and stiff hip
    This fall accounted for both
2 sets of linkens that a careful inspection revealed cracks…as I was adjusting them for people (damn!)
4/5ths of a bottle of Reuniti Lambrusco
    1/2 a bottle (4.0L) of CR Blush
    1/3 a bottle of sauza
At least 2.5 cases of Hamm's got drunk
