    K2 extremes

My uncle gave me a pair of K2 extremes the other day with Marker M51 twin cam bindings. I don't know what size they are, but they are about 6 feet long. He said they were really good skis and i was wondering what makes these skis so good. I'll attach a picture.

    Thanks for any responses.

They would make a nice chair or fencepost.

Seriously though, skis have come so far in technology and design. If you ride those, you're really missing out.

I think the 1993 model was the pre-cap with yellow/purple/green bases.

Didn't Scot Schmidt and Glen Plake make these good?

Learn to ski those well and deal with the prereleasing of the marker bindings and then you will achieve enlightenment.

what makes them good is, they are in your basement in front of a 'fridge hopefully stocked with beers

No, seriously, take what axebiker said and consider some newer skis.

Well assuming your a newb and not a troll, look at the recommended ski threads in the beginning of Tech Talk.
Your skis are not there. Read about every ski listed there. After a few hours you will discover those skis went the way of the Edsel. Donate them to charity and move on to modern equipment if you want to get back into skiing.
If your going to ski once a year, get the fuck out of here and go bug the guys at epicski.

Give em a whirl. What can it hurt. Seriously.
I hate all the "those are obsolete" stuff you hear these days. What, did skiing get completely reinvented or something?

Not completely but skis have advanced since these. Also, "as long as you have fun," but I've seen a lot of skiers struggling on old equipment and they'd be a lot happier if they upgraded to newer technology.

When the OP gets hurt from skiing on bindings that pre-released [cough]MARKER![/cough] or didn't release in a crash, he can come back and answer that question. I wouldn't ski on 10-15 y/o bindings if you paid me.

Try nailing your feet to that board on the left. I bet it's safer....

Actually, it is the flexanator technology built into the tips and tails. The skis used an advanced technology developed by the military to aytomatically adjust the skis flex parameters to the conditions being skied. It worked amazingly well. In fact at the time, there was some talk around the military that the skis should be pulled from the market.

Are you too young to remember Flexanator Tech?

I used to have a pair of those in a 210cm. I missed them today on the hardpack. Never should have tossed em in a dumpster.

I had those back in 94-95. I rocked the 198's. They didn't come in 210. Anyone that says that they are unskiable was born sometime within the last 15 years or has just started skiing within the last decade. I mean sheesh... Scott Schmidt, Doug Coombs, Glen Plake, and many local nobodies did gnarly first descents on those skis for goodness sake! Go ahead and ski them, but make sure that you try the newer technology too.... lift tickets aren't cheap... don't waste your time struggling with older gear...
