You can ski a lifetime and not do this... (pic)

i came flying through the woods, slipped on some ice and my left ski hit the tree and ripped off causing me to cartwheel into the stump visible in the last picture. luckily i was able to break most of my fall with my head hitting the stump (wear your helmet people). as i walked back uphill i noticed something funny....

    somehow the ski is fine

    edit: normal size pictures now

edit 2: i just recalled a funny encounter i had with an old shit head just prior to this event.

Shithead: (unprompted) "you want some safety advice?"
    me: "no"
Shithead: "remove your pole straps when you're skiing in the woods, you can dislocate your shoulder"
me: "i know, i've already messed up my shoulder, but i dont like loosing poles at top speed in the woods"
shithead: "then you know its easier to dislocate it again"
me: "um, yeah thanks for the preachy attitude though, how about you suck a dick and not block the traverse in the future?"

i was probably just being rude to a nice guy, but i really hate the attitude that just because i'm older i know more than you. i dont tell him how to drive, raise his kids, load his skis properly or how to go about any of the other minutia of daily life, why should he tell me? i know about the shoulder thing, it sucks, but what often sucks more is having your pole get ripped out of your hand by a tenacious ice crust then hurtling into a stand of tight trees with one pole, bad things happen, i know, i've done it. as i recall this guy wasn't wearing a helmet...

No way. You obviously planted that ski near a sapling years ago and let it grow up around it. To authenticate the photo and make it look current, you mounted a Naxo on the old ski recently.

So was the tree rotten or do you have ginsu skis?

there was a vertical slit pretty much exactly the width of the shovel of the ski that went through the tree, it still blows my mind that it happened, i could probably run into that tree every day for the rest of my life and not have it happen again.

Damn, you are lucky you weren't hurt badly.

Hopefully you left the ski there as a warning for others

The trees called. They want their wood back.

    Now that is CORE !

you must have been flying to spear a tree. (go ahead say you speared it even if there was a split in the tree)

I have seen and heard of the mythical golf ball impaled into a tree.

But a ski impaled through a tree now that is wicked sick.

egads...I was half expecting to see a leg still stuck in that binding. Look like it could have been dicey.

There are easier ways to get a reverse camber ski.

Skiing is bad for the environment. Stop hurting Mother Nature's trees.

Is that a wood core ski in a ski-core tree?
