Gear porn 08/09
I just got back from a trade show in Sweden, fondling next years hardware. Gadget wanking at it's best! Photos added a few posts down. A few K2 on page 3.
Völkl
Well, the biggest (piss poor pun intended) news must be the Kuro that replaces the Sumo. It looks like mad fun at 185 cm and 164-132-139. Rockered, or more like really long twin tip. Also comes in 175 cm.
The Gotama gets a big brother called Chop Stick (148-128-148, 175 and 185 cm). And a baby sister called Kiru with Goat dimensions and a softer flex.
K2
The Seth becomes obSETHed featuring more rocker (but still far from Hellbent) and a 105 mm waist. Could be fun. For a noodle.
Hellbent remains unchanged, except for the graphics. Cute embossed details in the top sheet.
Kung Fujas seems to take the place of the old Seth with a 95 mm waist (126-95-120, 169, 179 and 189) and no rocker.
The new Missbehaved is pretty much last years Seth in a softer flex.
Marker
The Duke and Jester remains the same but alson comes in a scaled donw, all plastic, DIN 4-12 version called the Baron and Griffon.
They also release a frankenbinding branded K2 MX. A system-binding featuring a Biometric toe and a Griffon (the all plastic Jester) heel. Gah!
Dynastar
The revamped Legend Pro looked nice. Same lengths as before but a 100 mm waist, a bit more side cut and a tad softer flex. Horrid top sheet. At least the Dynastar logo. Someone slept during typography 101...
Rossignol
The new SAS-series look great. They didn't have the S7. Bummer... The Scratch 140 (DIN 4-14) gets a non moving teflon AFD though.
Nordica
The Blower gets a flat, but rounded, tail (really flat) and they introduce the mandatory 140ish waist version called Jah Love. Pretty much looks like a gigant Blower.
Fischer
Nothing much, the Watea-series is brown instead of black. No sign of the Duke/207.
I probably missed out on lots stuff...

Do the Katana and Goat remain the same?

They both seem to be unchanged, except for the top sheets of course. Goats are black with lots of pink/green asian neon signs. The Katana are more similar to this years. And the Goats are marketed as a pure bc jibber now.

the volkl line up for next sounds beyond ridiculously good. can't wait to see the skis in person.
my question is about the kung fujas though. i know that line is owned by k2, but according to j lev, fujas was signed by line in the off season and has been skiing there skis, not k2s, so far this season. if that is the case...how is he getting his own pro model with k2

The kung fujas sounds a lot like the K2 SoDo (AT/tele version of the kung fujas?). Twin tip with the Mt. Baker core, and a super soft tain w/ a skin notch. Same lengths. Certainly not a big mt ski, but probably a good cheap, light at ski.

I thought K2 would come up with a replacement for the AK enemy. I think discontinuing the AK enemy was a really stupid decision.

I haven't seen it in person but from speaking with a Nordica rep, it is a flat tail and has zero camber.

2009 should be a good season for gear... It seems like all of the big boys are really pushing R&D this year; hopefully that should drive prices down for the super-fatties and fun-shapes...

They had the 185, don't know about any other length. It's a falt, rounded tail. Just like the new Blower.

Sockerfarsan, did ya happen to see any new Elans?
There's supposed to be a ~105mm waisted twin in their arsenal next season.

Just passed their booth very quickly, but they did have some yellowish semi-fat twin that could be it. Sorry...

The Dynastar top sheets look pretty crappy. I loved the old XXL look. The Jah Love's look COOL but I can't say I have any great need for a 140mm wide ski. But good stuff.
