    Boulder Restaurants?

So my dad and sister will be in town tonight and tomorrow night. One night we are going to go to Jax, and the other night somewhere new.

Zagats rated Frasca the best restaurant in Boulder, but on another message board alot of people thought that it was overrated and not worthy of its ranking.

    What do you suggest?

Never been to Frasca, but L'Atelier is really good (E. end of Pearl St. near Borders)

I haven't been yet, but John's on Pearl (couple blocks west of Folsom) has been highly recommended. It's a small place so you have to get reservations early (like 4 or 5 tables), but sounds like great food.

There's a ton of great food in PROB, how can you not know after years there?
At least give us more to work with...what kind of food, what kind of place, what kind of price?

John's is good, if it still exists and hasn't changed in 20 years.
Small, good romantic candlelight kind of place. In a house on Pearl, east of mall.
    $$$$

The Med has great "fun" food, and is at the other end for festiveness.
    Walnut, near the Walrus. $$$

Sunflower for great Organic/Natural eating, just east of the mall. $$

Royal Peacock for suuuuper yummy old school place, Indian Food. Out Arapaho I think, 36th or so? $$

Rudi's on Table Mesa for more Organic/Natural, but I've found it to be hit and miss in the last 10 years. Used to be really great. $$

Red Lion up Canyon in Boulder Canyon for "Big Game" style. Pretty good, and definitely different.
Probably serving Ostrich to Bison to whoknowswhatelse depending on the night. $$$$

I could go on and on...they're all fun and pretty decent.

    What are you looking for?

Price is not an issue. I really will eat anything, as will my family. I guess I will just have to see what kind of mood they are in when they get here.

My family rarely visits, and I don't have a girlfriend, so there is no reason for me to ever go out to nice restaurants. We always go to Jax its seems like.

Check and see if the Gold Hill Inn is still open for serving. That place is sweet. $$$
Up Mapleton into Sunshine Canyon, top out and turn to Gold Hill. Stop as you come down the hill into the main part of town, the Gold Hill Inn is an old rustic massive log cabin, with a badass old school bar in the front. They serve about a 5 course meal for around $25 or $30, you get to choose between soup/salad, entree, etc. Awesome ambiance, GREAT food. BE WARNED, CASH ONLY. Takes about 35 minutes to drive each way, road is...exciting.

Mataaam Fez (again, assuming it's still open). $$
Awesome Moroccan food. Belly dancers on weekend nights I think.
Floor/cushion seating. Make sure to have that one pastry puff chicken powdered sugar dish thingy.

That sounds like something my dad would like. I road my bike up to Gold Hill once....cool road for sure!

Zolo Grill. Owned by same guy as Jaxs. $$
Southwestern influenced instead of seafood influenced.
Not quite as great as JAX, but pretty fun, a little lower key.
Not really standout, just plain old good.

Check NOW, if open, make reservations NOW.
Might be too late in season to be open, but maybe not.
Road goes dirt part way, make sure car has some power and a little clearance (doesn't need to be 4x4 or even a Suby-wagon, just can't be super weak or super low clearance).

I've never been but always wanted to go to the old school boulder fine dining warhorse:
    Flagstaff House

I haven't been to John's in years (like 10) but it was pretty underwhelming the couple of times that I went.

I always enjoyed the Red Lion, in many ways it is a lot like the Buckhorn just a shade nicer.

My brother ate the other day at someplace called something like the Kitchen and said it was double tits nice.

Yeah, I have heard good things about The Kitchen.

Gold Hill Inn's website is down, so maybe they are done for the season. Gotta call after class.

I feel the same way about the Flagstaff House as LB felt about John's.
Not everything the hype says it is. Good - great even - but not kickyourfamilyinthehead great.
I don't think Flagstaff House is worth the $$$$. Johns may not be either, if you're not trying to get laid with a romantic dinner in a cozy nook for two.

Yeah, heard good things about the Kitchen, and also a fairly newer place that Below Zero also mentioned in a post a while back, something like Aji? Across from Fresca I think, east Pearl.

That makes me sad to hear Yoss

It is one place I've always wanted to go. :/ Actually, of late I've been to a fair number of high profile places that were not making the grade on the $/awesomeness scale.

    x3.

I'd go with the Kitchen or Red Lion.

Both Zollo and Jax recently changed their menus. Gold Hill is news to me, I'll have to check that out.

Go to The Kitchen. They have a seasonal menu, good wine list, good beers on tap or in bottles and great service. Go to The Kitchen Upstairs to have a cocktail before hand. All their produce and meats are from local purveyors. thekitchencafe.com
