Is anyone experiencing a good melt/freeze cycle in their area now?

I feel like a farmer who's watched a bumper crop of corn grow tall then get washed away by a flood....

I know there is still plenty of snow left, but these long range forecasts aren't encouraging

Is the forecast for your area inaccurate right now? It looks like freezing levels are supposed to be coming down into the 4000'-5000' range up there (I was almost tempted to drive back up that way, haha). I wouldn't be surprised if that is way off though.

The melt freeze cycle on Adams is pretty good. I had some beautiful corn for a long stretch yesterday. At night the freezing level dropped down to around 5000' (my guess, I camped at 6500 and it was really well frozen). By the time I got back to camp after skiing things were soft again.
    When in doubt...straighten 'em out.

Great touring around Fortune/Ingalls this weekend. Snowpack looks like early to mid-May in a good year. Fully consolidated. Get it while you can.

Hit the Colchuck Glacier on Saturday with a buddy, although it looks like either Friday or yesterday would have been better weather. Coming through Cashmere at 6:30 we had enough rain to make us reconsider but still drove to the TH which was thankfully dry (and the last of the rain we saw for the day). The snow hadn't re-frozen overnight so it was a little on the sloppy side down low. We didn't see evidence of a skin track (although one was put in on Friday) but there were several mountaineers who had put in a nice staircase so we opted to just boot straight up the 'glacier'. About 1/2 way up we saw just an outline of the skin track but the booting was just too fun to quit. Foggy up top and trying to wetly snow so we didn't push to a summit or linger. Snow was good the upper 2/3, slightly over-baked corn, but the bottom was pretty mushy and grabby. All in all a fun day in a location I hadn't been to before.

Dammit, no views today. Asgard Pass on the left, Colchuck Glacier on the right

    Start of the route

    Bootpack

    Decent descent

Vesper Peak on Friday, 6/18 and Birthday Tour on Saturday, 6/19. Both were in great shape for skiing, but clouds and fog blocked our views. Skied down Madison Ave. in dense fog. BDT should be in great shape for another week or two or more

Big S. is right, lots o' snow left, and the debris in Spire is finally smoothing out. I skied Thursday, Friday, Sunday and Monday at the pass. A buddy in spire on Monday:

Solstice tour at Silver Peak last night. Fabulous views, amazing sunset, fun turns and good folks. Got down at dark. We heard that Chainsaw Willie, altasnob, et. al. came out by headlamp

If the on shore flow forecast holds, we might return to WA Pass for the weekend

It may be summer, but it's prime time spring ski touring season!

WTF was that? Keep your spam to yourself, please.

Yeah Steve, skiing by headlamp was fun! A couple pics from the Solstice at Silver Peak:

    boozing.

BUT the skiing and company were superb. A few from Alpental Solstice Ski 2011. ~15 people headed up to the top of 2 to enjoy the solstice and damn fine skiing on june 21, and ostensibly avoid the crowds on Silver.

The Fan looked so good I had to make a lap while the minikeg chilled up top.

    more Rainier

Skiers right Upper I was money.

As was Adreneline and lower I.

~200ft walk to the patio, but rapidly melting out to above chair 3. Nash will probably reamain in good shape well into July.

Well, 3 weeks ago there was still a LOT of snow up there, all the way down to the parking lots. I'm sure it's melted out some since but should still be plenty higher up.
