Popova Shapka, Macedonia is still delivering.

Wind packed powder with 5-10cm penetration
Non wind affected powder above tree line with 30-40cm penetration
Treeline and below, knee to mid thigh deep. Sheltered gullies = face shots

Sunny the past two days. Chair on hold today, but hiked up to the top at sunrise. Magic.

Will check the youtube later when not at work and figure this out. I would say it's much closer to the 25-30+ metres vs the 15 metres. Unfortunately didn't have any people in the photo for perspective.

it always seems normal on my crappy screens....

and yes. it is the same clif jamie hucked. only he hucked it further right and much bigger.

Cberry: yeah we should have stayed the second day..... but we had extremo alpine hero greg with us he hates ALL OF YOU and so we did a tour. !

P.S. the forecast makes me angry at ullr and very sad at the same time. i wish i was in the eastern alps so i could enjoy at least a few more nice days.

This isn't a surprising cycle, actually. Western alps have traditionally had bit high pressure cycles (3-4 weeks) followed by huge storm cycles. It's only been last year and the beginning of this year where we had more consistent refills but less overall snow.

Worst case, be flexible and hop the train to Engelberg/Andermatt and crash there if the northern/eastern alps are where it's at.

Kaltenbach/Hochfügen in Zillertal were pretty sick last weekend even--boot deep and lots of easy fresh tracks to be had. Unfortunately, I'm not making it out during the week this week, but the weekend is looking good too.

Low elevations in the eastern Alps (e.g. Kitzbühel area) still need some decent coverage before the tree skiing gets good. I hope it comes soon, because I'm sick of driving 2 hours instead of 45 min...

No problem, patterns generally set in for 3-6 weeks.

    You'll have a new pattern.

Now, you might want to worry that it is a dry pattern!

Look at the bright side; you'll get really good at crust, moguls and boilerplate, just like the straig8line campers with their fat rockers yesterday....

Seriously, it's not that bad right now; just stay off the gnarly piste and sharpen your edges. There is currently good chalk skiing in the coulies with the correct exposition and pow for the cognoscienti... Jerome will hook you up for sure.

There's definitely snow at this point. It's the base that I'm worried about. I'd like to be able to ski trees at lower elevation resorts, e.g. Westendorf or Kitzbühel, and there's still not much of a base in the woods. Don't want to hurt my new baby JJs...

Pretty much. The Eskimo Cat crew were skiing the front side too, but didn't cross tracks. Did some hiking too. To the telegraph towers peak, lookers left of the chair. Excellent.

Started snowing yesterday afternoon and hasn't stopped since. At least 30cm on the ground. Visibility zero at the moment, and blowing a bit. May take a rest day and watch it build.

Will be skiing tomorrow, leave Sunday.

    Get back here Vihren.
