    Well done JT!

great segment. My son and I saw the teaser earlier in the day. He kept reminding me hey when is 60 minutes on. Then my mom calls to tell me about the segment. Truly jaw dropping. This takes the word GNAR and adds something...not sure of the word yet, my jaw is still on the floor!

I kind of expect uber-cheesy when a mainstream news outlet produces a segment about anything EXTREME but that was very well done.

That was a great segment as it flowed well, was not cheesy, and the photography in hd was amazing. Props to you guys for doing it right and getting some nice quotes in there.
I did not know Shane was going to be part of the segment. I am sure that was tough answering Steve Kroft's questions. Goes to show this thing has been in the works for a while.

I made a point to turn on 60 minutes last night to watch the segment and wasn't disappointed. You guys all came across as well thought out as opposed to the mid-90s rap rock/spiky hair/energy drinkin' fools like I would have expected a major news outlet to try and edit you guys down as.

BTW, that shit looks insanely fun! If only I had $10k...
Be careful about buying snowboard goggles for skiing. Snowboard goggles come in right eye and left eye (for goofy-footers) dominant models. This can make it hard to see correctly when skiing because you are facing straight down the hill, not sideways.

JT, Super solid piece. I was worried they would be trying to make you guys look like Biker Sherlock. The sport was well represented and you were very well spoken. I think the biggest thing I got out of it was, "Wow I wish I could taste the feeling of flight like them."
That is something people have been after for a long time.
"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention to arrive safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming: Wow!!! What a ride!"

The presenter did a professional and respectful job too. Didn't try to be down with the kids too much.

Wingsuit Flying Videos & Photos from CBS 60 Minutes "The Birdmen" segment

LIVING THE DREAM - FALLING VIDEO

"Living the Dream - Falling" rap about gravity sports from Shane McConkey & Miles Daisher

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLV6cavwwcw"]YouTube - shane&milesD[/ame]

JT - What lines if any from this "Living the Dream - Falling" rap from Shane McConkey & Miles Daisher capture your feelings about gravity sports? Separately, the Going the Distance project trailer (www.goingthedistance.info) - mentioned in the comments section of the 60 Minutes The Birdmen video clip - that you appeared in to help raise awareness and funding for TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) had some moving stories.

    VIEWERS

About 11.5 million viewers for CBS 60 Minutes "The Birdmen" segment according to the preliminary Nielsen overnight ratings http://tvbythenumbers.com/2009/10/12...flatline/30177

8:30 CBS 60 Min 11.548 million viewers (live + SD)

Since The Birdmen segment was the last (3rd of 3) segment on 60 minutes and 60 minutes was delayed by about 45 minutes due to CBS football overrun, the 8:30 pm preliminary rating probably captures the viewership most accurately for this segment.

Porters gained some good media exposure from the Porters sticker on the helmet of J.T. Holmes.

[TGR - I was surprised that the vBulletin software automatically created the supposedly clickable video screenshot images for the cbs video website links (instead of just displaying the website links) that I have in my post as I thought that you had only activated the code for Youtube, Google & Vimeo videos. You may wish to have the TGR webmaster investigate why these video screenshot images don't appear to launch the videos when clicked upon.]

    The Birdmen

In the latest craze that has killed several extreme adventurers, men don wing suits, jump off mountain tops and glide at speeds of 140 miles per hour. Steve Kroft reports.

    "There He Goes"

J.T. Holmes shows Steve Kroft how he uses his wingsuit to fly. His journey begins a mile above the valley floor.

    "I Am Flying"

J.T. Holmes says he can fly. His flights may only last a minute but they are a sight to behold.. Take a look and judge for yourself.

WINGSUIT FLYING PHOTOS FROM CBS 60 MINUTES

TRANSCRIPT OF CBS 60 MINUTES WINGSUIT FLYING SEGMENT "THE BIRDMEN" at http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/...n5374843.shtml

A few excerpts from the transcript of this wingsuit flying segment:

..."I just love just feeling speed and watching that stuff go by," J.T. Holmes told Kroft.

..."It feels entirely in control. And the speed actually increases your stability and it increases your safety margin. Because with the speed that we're flying with, you can create lift. And you know you can pop up and fly away at any time. There's margin there," Holmes explained.

Asked how quickly he can turn, Holmes said, "I don't even know how to turn. You just do it. You just look where you wanna go and you just go there. And you just feel it and go."

"You're like, 'Yeah, let's go fast. This feels good. The faster I go, the more control I have.' And you just charge with it," he added.

...It looks spontaneous, but the birdmen put together a detailed plan every time they jump.

"If you die BASE jumping it is your own fault. It is your own mistakes that makes that happen," fellow birdman Espen Fadnes explained

"If you do crash when you're flying your wingsuit, you're gonna die. Nobody lives through that. You're just going too fast," Holmes said.

..."Yeah, I do dangerous things," Holmes said.

..."Every jump is like a little mini-adventure," Holmes added. "These are experiences that I only want to share with people that I love and respect."

    FKNA! Super segment.
J.T.: Your whole crew came off great. Watched it in the mess hall on the ship and everyone there was in awe. I still get chills every time I watch that Seven Sunny Days switchback buzz segent.
