It was Friday...and i was not on skis...

Actually, i was let down after having put faith and hopes on no4kast.
I looked last Sunday and saw a BIG PINK BLOB along the Ital/Suisse border. I was drooling over that 3-Day map. I was thinking a road trip down to St. Luc, Grimentz, or Evolene was called for on Weds.

I woke up on Monday to check on the BIG PINK BLOB and it moved towards the Austria/Ital border and shrunk by at least 70%. btw, the next day it was gone, gone, gone...

Again, hopes rose up on Weds, seeing something coming in Thurs/Friday.
Cool! I invited a couple snow fiends to join in on a dawn raid to Verb or G3.
    Again, what was predicted vanished.

And so i awoke on friday at home and decided to yank a few chains.
2 B honest, i was as disappointed as anyone.
Happily, for me, i did not have a gun in the house.

My wife saw me front flip out of my skis.
Fog like pea soup moved in ~ 10:30 giving everyone a lesson in skiing blind.
We got out at 11:30 and counted our blessings being alive and injury free.

    let's see:

110chf - 3 ski tickets PDS CLCF Full Day.
27chf for cafes & tartes waiting for fog to lift.
    3 hours on the road.

    for 2 hrs of skiing.

    makes my day!

Les Houches had some nice dust on a firm crusty base yesterday. Pity only had an hour to enjoy before heading back out on the road to work

Found some decent snow in Ischgl yesterday. Mostly about 10cm of fresh snow on top of a icy chopped up layer. However a couple of east facing slopes had a bit more and the layer below was soft enough to make for some really good skiing. Ended up having my best day this winter.

There is nice snow out there.

    LITT, stop writing in code.
People take your posts as written, Asshole.
That's a double wink, if you get what I mean.

Was surprised not to see you with Ripz on Fri am "dawn patrol."
I dragged my ass out of bed after a late night out.
I needed to go skiing, I didn't care where, so long as it was above 2000m.

As for the rest, Stay above 2000m.
There is nice snow out there.

Way to go ripping it up, Ripz and Geo, and sorry about your continued horrible luck, LITT.

Just back (not home, but off the mountain) from an attempt to climb the Barre des Ecrins. Great fun, although I didn't even get to see the summit - got knocked out of action around 2600m due to some serious muscular pain, I'm sure caused from trying to bite off more than I can chew on the first big ski tour of the season.

Lovely weather and fantastic weekend and will be going back soon... some pictures to follow. Another great two days out...

Now I'm on wireless at La Grave! Waiting on a friend here to call me back will try to hook up with her and ski here tomorrow, then off to Meribel on Tuesday for another ski tour is the tentitive plan.

WOW, La Grave is awe-inspiring! The cablecar just disappears up the mountain, cut up left and right by scary glaciars and rock bands... can't wait to check it out up close. :-)

More sunshine in the forecast, and less wind, what a great time to go ski touring.

And PS, the "STFU" alias isn't me (although I like it)... I've been high up on the mountain this whole weekend.

    Hey Brian...

Have a look at Black Diamond test-center at Edelweis Hotel, they have all sorts of stuff to test (Avalungs, shovels and most likely their skis). Should be open for the rest of the season, and next season as well.

(Edelweiss Hotel, in La Grave, that is).

Skied the BS mt Fort and the vallon 'd Arby(entering from the right side after traversing under de col de Chassoure) yesterday. Had great snow, especially in the shade. Some great spring snow down to Verbier after traversing left from Savoleyres.

By the way, Verbier61, how often are you in Verbier? Wanna get some turns in?

vallon d'arbi is always THE place to go. I personally prefer the north faces traversing as high and long as possible after he col de mines, but there are more faces than one can just imagine....
I was in verb saturday, and there was no sun enough to transform the south face you did from savoleyres... crust...

BTW, it's a pity that this year the hidden valley never really got enough snow to go and come back from the plan de fou. that's an hidden gem.

it was my 32nd day in verb this winter... but most of them with my kids, so my mobility is sorta limited.... stay tuned!

says changes after the weekend, and all the models are agreeing on a northwest flow, which I hear is the best snow producing flow?

"Some possible drops Saturday as of the semi-day with snow above 1500 Mr. a very strong wind of south-west rises Sunday to the approach of the disturbance. A wind which rocks with the North-West in evening of Sunday and snow goes down quickly until low altitude. A scenario which seems increasingly probable since the models have already seen it for several days. This morning, the cold descent is seen a little more in the west that these last days, France and Spain would be touched by gel and flakes almost to the Mediterranean! Here the falls of snow should continue for all the beginning of the following week. To follow…"
