Props to OHC for getting her and the rest of his team ready.
i'll let The Dad fill in from his perspective at the bottom....
from my view, it looked like she had a decent run, but a bobble or 2 where she killed it yesterday. it was a different day with definitely trickier conditions and she had a slightly more "defensive" skiing style. in any case, her solid run from Day 1 was more than enough to seal a 2nd place. let it be known.... "notice has been served" to the older girls on the team, girlie-girl will be a force to contend with in the future !!!
overall i was proud of the whole team for charging on some of the boniest competition conditions i have ever seen. after 1 1/2 hours staring down Keyhole competitor after competitor.... i was all puckered out! LOL...
btw, not sure if any spectators caught it... but i let one of my 11 y/o ski team kids who was the first one down forerunning, uncork a 360 telecopter off a rock (the ONLY one attempted by any forerunner/competitor). i guess he didn't land it cleanly and popped out of his binding, but HE will also be a future force to contend with.
Squaw reported 3inches this morning but skied more like 8 or so, some sections of the mountain was def. better than others. It is snowing pretty good right now, tomm should be fun!!
Just a side note, does anyone have any pics of the Mt. Rose chutes area (El Cap in particular?

got to kirkwood at 3:00. here's part of my last run@4:15. nothing gnar, just the conditions.
Then you timed it right, as best conditions of the day were from 2 PM on. At 1 PM the temp dropped a good 10 degrees with the incoming system and the snow that fell was blower blower. If you knew were to forage, the servings were definitely plentiful today (If you didn't you were bottoming out and getting bucked by rockhard death crust on every fourth turn)
squaw got only a few inches last night but there was lots of windblown to be found. In most places it was on top of bulletproof ice, but granite chief and silverado were skiing really nice. It was snowing some good big flakes while I was trying to drive home over the pass tonight.

kind of figured i hit it right, but i was just lucky. i found out i wasn't working after 1, and then couldn't convince the girls to come with me for an hour of skiing (ok, i didn't try my hardest).
the wind was definitely out of the north and the radar is now showing it out of the east.
anyway, if access is open tomorrow there will be goods. i like the peavine thing though.
The N wind pretty much raped Vista, but then disappeared when the afternoon system hit and dropped its load with pretty much no wind at all. Don't you dare talk about wind and that E-word, it's not true until someone sees it with their own eyes!!!
You or anyone else drop me a PM. I'm game, but I don't tour alone.
It's a rare opportunity...most of the time if there's snow there, everywhere else will have three times as much, so there's no point going to Peavine. This is the only time I've ever seen such a weather pattern...
^^^ I think she finished second. Thanks for the photos.
Second indeed. And thanks indeed.

I concur heartily. And among the things that impressed me about the way she treated this comp was the fact that she knew she hadn't done as well, and had a decent idea why. That makes it that much more of a learning experience.
Now, if only Tough Guy Productions has footage of her on day one, I can send it to KneisslSkis.... ;-)
Oh, and all the parents were talking about that 360.

Definitely some places on the mtn did better with ~5" new snow than others.
Estelle and High Beaver where closed. But Pond Slope was skiing very nice.
Should be pretty nice when Estelle and High Beaver open...
Yeah, yesterday was surprisingly awesome. Sherwood (Bakery and Powerlines) were great, and the Sherwood Cliffs back were uniformly awesome. All over the hill, as long as you stayed where the wind blew snow to, and avoided where it blew from, all was fun.
I snowboarded for the first time yesterday! Can ride all the "blue" runs at Bear. Found a small patch of powder and got the "surf" feeling for like 2 seconds...I am hooked

I also skied Chair 6 at KW for the first time ever on Saturday and pinballed my way down Rabbits, but really, who cares?
and yes guermo I am guilty of posting slivers of tripe in this thread but whatever
edit: Zep you know I'm just messing with you, if you want some pointers/faux-lesson I'm happy to offer one if you get over to KW on a weekend I'm there. As much of a beater as I am, I do actually know how to teach snowboarding technique.
just got back from kirkwood, well not really kirkwood. i planned to hit either carson pass trees if it was real windy or kirkwood sidecountry. got to carson pass and there was already a set of tracks in my intended area so i drove on. got to the wood and it was howling. 6 was running 10 was but not loading. the sign at the bottom of 6 said no access. turned around, went back to the pass.
Holeeee shiite was it good, in fact, it was like this all day.
Vancouver was pretty sweet this past weekend. The general vibe in the entire City (amongst us Americans) yesterday pre-, during- and post-US/Canada hockey was awesome. Not a medal round, but man what a good game.
powdork- looks like it was fun.
schralph- That mag cover is fitting counting on I am boarding on womens bindings
(yeah I have a difficult time boarding the fall line on steeper slopes-man falling leaf is awesome!)

Here's the video from today's fun. The first run I used the regular orientation, but i have adjusted the angle up from previous tries. Not being able to see the angle I set, i switched the orientation to tall. I kind of like the way it worked out, but you be the judge (it really does require the full screen but you mught have to watch on the vimeo site for hd).

that's how i missed shooting the last line dead tree bowl in the picture above.
dang powdork that looks awesome! I like the "tall" version, seemed to be sharper.
when you go full screen, your screen is probably larger than the video as is with the normal orientation. however when the tall version is full screen it is not trying to stretch pixels since the video has enough pixels to fill the screen.
Yesterday (and Sunday, for that matter) at NS was pretty damn bueno.
Total fluff on scruff, which was actually super dupe funolio on the Spats.
Yesterday Vets and I converged between the G & H lots around 9:30 (he had a dental appointment, hence the Leisure Suit Larry start) and were TwoSixtyOneing stuff by 10.
We owned Sticks and Stones, buttered The Biscuit, and surfed The Wave. Most of it was fluff on scruff, but we found some cuff deep freshies.
My Spats were a blast in the variable snow and Vets even coaxed me back onto his Lhasas. I was hesitant as I've demoed them about 1/2 dozen times to date and just never got 'em. Funny thing though, I got 'em this time and found their previously elusive sweet spot and totally railed 'em on a couple groomers and swung 'em through some Rendezvous tree lines like they were nimble Spats.
All in all a satisfactory jaunt.
As for snow totals, NS seemed like they got roughly 1-2" Sat night into Sunday and then perhaps another 1" Sunday night into Monday. We had about 2" at Tahoe Donner between the two days, as well, give or take a 1/2-1" either way.
