More arguing about MT please. It's quality.

Does anyone need to buy a house in Missoula? Maybe we can work together to drive up crud's property value.

They are gonna have to move a whole shiton of dirt to pull this thing off. They should be up there with blowtorches melting snow, so they can dig ASAP.
"The freeride mountain bike terrain at Winter Park is gaining more and more recognition in the mountain bike community...”
Uhhhh, not too sure about that. The one DH trail is fun, but gets kinda boring after about 3 runs. 95% of the 'jumps' don't have landings.
I really, really really hope they get it done right, but it has the potential to be embarrassing.
The terrain park was kinda cool, the jumps were kinda weird but the wall ride was really fun.
    Shitons of dirt.

Flow.........it's intrawest.......the company that's formed its own consulting business to do nothing but advise and direct bike park construction in the same vein as whistler.....because it's the same guys who designed whistler.

There's almost no way they could do it poorly.

    Oh shit.......now I said it......sorry guys

I agree about the work involved. Whistler starts building the slopestyle course months before Crankworx. It could be really embarrassing, but I really don't think it will be, especially if they bring in Whistler designers to build it. Cowan does an excellent job with everything he builds.

I think the A-line style race will be harder to pull off. It is incredibly difficult to build a trail with jumps as perfect as those on A-line. I've seen other mountains in BC try to build A-line and it just isn't that easy.

    Woo:
I know, I know. But first weeknd of July, its just not that much time.
I don't doubt any of the design, I almost see it being a manpower problem. Its really unexciting in its current form, trust me on this.
The slopestyle will be sick, but the A-line style DH?
Don't get me wrong, I really want it to be sick, it will be great for the whole scene in CO.

edit: Word, funk. Beat me to it.

I'll be there with family in tow for three days. Renting a place for the stay, a couple freinds will be joining us. I'm gonna do the xc race, even though I'm totally into the gravity thing these days.

I gambled and entered into the pro dh race. Gamble based on the fact that I have no idea how the course is, and we get a whopping one hour of practice just thirty minutes before the race. Kinda silly schedule - I may be making a trip up there some random weekday to get a bit more time in.

FYI, registration went online about a week and a half ago: www.crankworxcolorado.com

Im in for Super D. If any of you all are up for the weekend, or any time for that matter, stop in a say hey. I work at a shop in Fraser called Totally Wired Cyclery. I would love to go for a ride or point you in the right direction.
As far as quality of the planned features amd terrain go, this sound like it should be a monster step in terms of quality riding. Winter Park has a sordid past of vision warring with risk management. The summer terrain has been consistently getting better, but far from being a world class destination for freeride/dh. However, this same trend happened with their winter terrain parks, and has now evolved into a great progressive park. Word is Cowan and a crew of Canadians are coming in this week to scope, plan, and scheme with construction to follow. THERE WILL BE LOTS OF DIRT, like. . . . yeah, a lot. Supposed jumbotron and world class course design with lots o flo. They said the Air DH is not going to be like A line, because of forest service stuff, they cant have the dirt, so maybe wood it sounds like. The lower mountian is owned by WP, so the slopestyle will be legit. THis is a trial year, if this works, there is a supposed 3year contract waiting, so they will take it seiously.
So there is some stuff to add to the rumor mill. I heard most of this from my friend who is the rider liason so I think it is right on. Either way, non-xc riding is improving every year up here.

    Day 1:

DH is long, has hundreds of loose banked turns, a 15 second jump section that's really well built and fun to flow, a wooden berm (wallride, whatever), and will be a pedalfest come race day. The smart kids went to Sol Vista after just a few runs at WP - Wentz and Moga have made some SICK trails. Respect.

Slopestyle practice opened up. Due to really strong winds for the better part of the session, many of the features went unhit until the end of the day. Only one person hit the first drop, he had way too little speed and landed on his feet on the road that he should have gapped over. We were all amazed that he walked away. The course is tricky and many riders are simply hoping to clean it . . . no one has hit the wallride and only Goldman was able to nail the stepup to wood. It's going to be interesting as there is one line down the course and each feature is almost mandatory. We did see a few tricks this evening however - flips and cans and heel clickers and such. Nothing huge yet, kids are just warming up and the wind was hell yesterday evening.

A few crappy pics to tide you over:

yeah, I'm pretty sure he's the only one in the comp with a hardtail. Everyone has 4-6" bikes for the most part. That, and the guy is old enough to be my dad - which is sick! I hope I can still ride that well when I've got gray hair.

I don't think those blue pads in front of the concrete barriers on the back of the landing would make me feel much better.

I just peed my pants a little.

It's raining like a mother right now, slopestyle qualifiers likely postponed 'til tomorrow. DH practiced canceled for the day, but that's fine - the course needs some H20 love.

Dcamp killing it - he's got the course pretty dialed and is one of the few actually tricking jumps. Good work:

I'm impressed! Racing that hellaciously pedally course without a chain is no small feat. I was in the red/black kit - about the 10th person off. Wound up 18th on the day.
