    COMPREHESIVE RECOMMENED SHOP LIST

ok, lets break it down by area... recommended shop list.

it will take several nominations to get on the recommended list.

it will also take several nominations to get on the DO NOT GO list. you must also explain your reason to NO GO.

i will edit this and compile as we go.

please include the shop name, actual city, and geographic region (ie. pnw, tahoe, ootard, colorado/NM, wy/mt/id, midwest, east coast, etc...) thanks.

    word.

Marshal - is this for a particular sport or all inclusive?
    Recommend:

Green Mountain Sports, Lakewood, CO (skiing, biking)
    Colorado Freeride, Breckenridge, CO (skiing)
Alpine Shop, St. Louis, MO (backpacking/boot fitting, general outdoors)

    Not Recommend:
Neptune Mountaineering. Others, I'm sure, have better stories about this place. I went to try some Dynafit compatible boots, they only had one in a size near my foot (still too big) and tried to convince me that it was the right boot and they would put foam pieces around the tongue and heel to make it fit right. I've been fit well before, and tried to explain why I would like to try smaller sizes/different boots. They kept with pressure to buy the one boot they had in stock and emphasized their "fit guarantee".

    What defines a "shop"?

Would a place like Porters or Start Haus in Tahoe count, or are they just primarily a discount outlet?

    Recommended for Seattle area eastside:

Gerk's Alpine Hut - Redmond, WA - PNW
    Sturtevant's - Bellevue, WA - PNW

Recommended by many others but not by me:

Pro Ski - North Bend, WA - PNW (Because I'm young, I must automatically be a park rat and an idiot. Just forgot to put in 2 binding screws on a mount, leading to having to helicoil the rest of the holes later)

    Try to avoid:

PhD Skis. I, and various other people, have had problems dealing with the owner there. He's got a screw loose. Drilled a hole through my boots and was a grade A douchebag about it.

Colorado Freeride/Racer's Edge - Kris has hooked me up on more than one occasion and they are always super helpful when I go.

    CO-Breckenridge-Carver's

Fast, quick tunes, cheap and a couple of mags used to work there.

Good prices, sound and friendly advice, and will mount bindings the next day if you ask nicely enough . Bought a new pair of boards @ 3sunday afternoon and had them out and on the hill on monday morning.

Oh yeah, I've never used the shop at Evo - but if Chris is still heading it up, I'd totally trust them to do any work I needed. And I'd take his suggestions...

But I'm on the other side of the lake, so I just use Gerk's Alpine Hut - per the above post.

alta - pdogg's shop. the only shop that will bend brakes and free hand mount (read: mount 110+ waist skis). all the other alta ski shops are a waste of time.

edit - they've been mounting spatties for years, so praxis, hellbent etc is no sweat

The shop under the Peruvian did a rocking nice Praxis mount for us on a super rush basis - incl a little brake tweaking. Apparently they've done a bunch of Praxis & DP mounts - at least the crew that was there last winter did... . I'd use them again if I were in the neighborhood.
