There are like 2000 types of milkvetchs out there, and sometimes you need a small magnifying glass to see the difference between two. Based on these photos, it looks like a Lavin's milkvetch (Astragalus oophorus var. lavinii), which has those pods as more swollen than other similar milkvetch species. There a quite a few other milkvetchs that look almost exactly like Lavin's though. For common identification purposes, referring to it as a milkvetch is probably good enough. If it is a Lavin's milkvetch, thats cool because Lavin's is a USFS sensitive species. When I'm not snowboarding fulltime, I work as a biologist on the north shore. I enjoy riding in winter so much more because I don't have to see all these plants and think about them hehe. Good thing is, when you venture off the trail and some annoying tourist says "hey, you're killing plants", I can respond with "its okay, I'm a scientist", which really gets you out of trouble, even when you're carrying a board and six-pack.
