so i think Ullr-fest worked. one of the first signs of winter is already showing,

    i have a cold.

ps. favorite moment of the entire night:

skiingsamurai - "I dont like cheap vodka"

me - "here drink some of this whiskey"

skiingsamurai - "wow this is good, what kind is it?"

    me - "cheap vodka...."

    skiingsamurai - "really....."

Major thanks to BigD for stepping forward to be this years host. A pig roast is noooo small ordeal. We all huddled around that pig at some point absorbing the warmth of the coals and then we chowed down on him..he served two purposes really and he was pretty damn good. The screen with sound system up in the field was a fantastic effort as well and there was no lack of ski flics. BigD went all out. Fresh coffee and oatmeal in the morning at the cabin was a warm welcome for our chilled camping butts.

the man himself doing some lathering..

the chair effort got under way before the pig was done with spritey taking the lead and staylert offering the hold things down.

this much got done before the pig chow down.

after the chow down there was a dash to the upper field to get the fire going. another flame thrower shot.

knuckledragger and I were up early enough catch sight of allentaylor shake the boards off of his sabotaged tent and take a sandwich off his head. I think the plan was to have a bear chow down on him at night. I dunno..

    He returns the favor.

soon after, more campers are up , fire still going.. sprite looking pretty hot...

That morning, BigD is being measured for his new chair

i'm not sure what this look says...

coffee break in the cabin sorry for the blurry shot (BigD, stayalert, BigD buddy, sprite)

    many thanks BigD

(and for those wondering phall did not roll into any body of water this year)

WOW! I can't believe Ullrfest has come and gone! It went off great and thanks to everyone who came to partake. I also appreciate all the assistance and contributions, but I'm especially psyched about my new "personalized" ski chair! Thank you EW and Sprite (and Stayalerts ass-istance)! That was/is so awesome... (now I have to make em for Mrs. & Little BD)...

It was great to meet lots of maggots who were surprisingly an awesome group of people! (I'd still hide your children from them, though.) Those of you who missed it, well,... you might as well have missed three feet of powder! We ate, drank and ate and drank some more. My only complaint, is that none of the neighbors complained. (Maybe that's because they were there?..) A few called the next day to say how much fun they had, so thanks for not making me get run out of town! Seriously, it was great meeting you all and so now, let the snow fly and the real fun begin!

A tribute to Mr. Pig (our Ullr sacrifice):

    Direct from the farm:

The main man Bruce ( www.spitjack.com ) who helped and walked me through my first pig roast:

    The ski/pig box:

    ummmm... starting to cook:

    Snowsprite adding some goodness:

Knuckledragger proving his caveman skills are still sharp:

"Team Carhart" back at it the next day (glad the power tools were quiet during the fest!):

The field the day before... Granville's "Cinema Under the Stars" is born!:

Again, thanks everybody for making it such a blast! It was so worth the effort and I'd even consider doing this again...!?

How about a summer series? I'd come up for some of those nights...and what else do folks in Granville have to do any besides chase the sheep?

You read my mind. After this weekend, I am so inspired to host a summer series... been thinking about it all day. You're totally right, not much else to do (except chase sheep and roast pigs!) It worked so well, with everyone parking & camping up there, then the bonfire and the big screen. You can be sure I'll do this again, but I think summer would be the perfect time. It is already the talk of Granville so we might as well get some more mileage! (Is this how Woodstock got started?!) I also think it's only fair that those maggots who braved the below freezing temps this weekend, be given a free pass!... except Fran, who posted that pic of me in sitting on the screwdriver he left sticking up in my chair. Stay tuned...

PS- Does anyone have any pics of all the tents set up?

PSS- This pic ended up on my camera, but I did not take it... (Talk about waking up with wood!):

Jeff, you nailed it. That's definitely the look of someone with a screwdriver up their ass.

... the tent on your camera is allentaylor's(08's "that guy"?). There's a bottle rocket on his head.. and a sandwich... all of that stuff was still on him in the morning. Was someone supposed to light that wood?

I've got a chair shot of VtFreeheel.. vvvv.. but no shots of all the tents..

because the chair pics keep returning...

..and not that any of us read Skiing but in the latest issue there was an article on building a ski chair where you can send $40.00 for a set of prints and the chair doesn't even use skis for the arm rest. Pfffffffffttttttttt.
If anyone is interested in doing one, scroll up to the pic that says "this much got done before the chow down". That pic shows all the wooden frame work and assembly needed before screwing skis on (other than small supports for the ski arm rests at the end). We used one 14' piece of 5/4 x 8 to produce all that's needed. I suppose 3/4" could be used but to date we've used stuff run through the planer cause it's been on hand and makes a rugged chair. That chair only took seven skis.
It looks like it's going to be a good winter. Maybe Ullr is pleased we didn't burn any skis but don't let me fuck up that tradition, I'm just stating it maybe a good winter afterall. Not once did anyone mention doing that this year (other than allenataylor say something about all the bad shit in a ski) and I thought that strange( honestly, this year I decided not to push any point of view on the subject) Although, I did turn in "early" being satiated with the pig, the ski flicks, the beer, and being an old fuck. Maybe shit got burned later, I dunno. Either way, fuck that article in Skiing. (disclaimer: the design of the ski chair we used at the last three fests is not of my own, but was chosen for it's simplicity, ease of construction and a great looking chair).

ps.. I have to admit that the final article by Rob Story gives him redemption, in my eyes, considering all the controversy over the maggot article..

how did this page get so fkn wide??

So does Allen realize I saved his life? (or at least his sleeping bag?!) That must merit a backcountry tour of Stowe?!

that's my salad bowl, Jeff. Call me when you're up next.
..and man you'll do anything for that backcountry tour

ya know I re-read what I said above and made it kinda unclear my position on the ski burning. Ullr is MUCH happier we did not burn skis... you'll see..
