TR - Roundtop East Bowl, 8/1/10

    Date: August 1, 2010
    Location: Roundtop East Bowl
    Skiers: dookey67, Vets

After warming up yesterday on the [ame="http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=197427"]Auxiliary Patch[/ame] with a relatively short approach we got a bit more ambitious and headed up to Roundtop East Bowl.

Our first challenge was dookey67 nearly getting stuck in the wildflowers on the approach:

We would start skiing from the snow to looker's right of his ski tips. We also needed to find out if what looked like three separate sections of snow would connect together for one run.

The next challenge was finding a boulder hopping route on the approach:

After that we had an on snow approach:

This is me, Vets, starting down from the top section:

    and continuing:

    dookey67 flys by:

    and keeps heading down:

    and then gets closer:

    and closer:

    and closer still:

    Vets follows:

Our tracks from our first run on Roundtop East Bowl:

We started above the rocks in the center in the shade between the goalposts of snow. (There were many more rocks showing than seen in this photo. It won't be long until things get melted out and it won't be continuous.)

dookey67 approaching near the top of our second run:

    and heading back down:

Vets getting close to a possible pond skim:

This was a beautiful way to get in my 82nd consecutive month skiing.
dookey67 is in his 30-something consecutive months.

Despite the previous day's warm-up on the Aux Pat, my Feng Ski was seriously off this day.

I bailed on side-stepping the last 300 feet to the crest of the run and ripped down 4/5th's of the bowl to snap shots of Vets doing the Full Monty.

Long a$$ day, but that frozen blue lake and being able to see all the way to Lake Tahoe made for some spectacular scenery.

Oh yeah, LLMFH (the ladies loved my flowered hat...we passed quite a few on the way in and comments ranged from "I love a man who can wear flowers" to "Nice hat" to--and this one was fired at Vets--"Does he always wear that hat?")
"Man, we killin' elephants in the back yard..."
