2015 - 2016 AK Conditions & Stoke Thread
A place to find partners, post avy & snow conditions, beta, and stoke from the winter here in AK.
Made it up to the Jewel yesterday. Strong North winds have done their work. Between 0 and 12 inches of new snow on the glacier. Snow conditions were variable between powder, wind affect, and crust. We were able to ski down to the rocky headwall above the Crow Pass trail.

I, for one, look forward to the stoke you bring this season, Mike_Records

Did the Milk-Raven-Jewel glacier loop yesterday. 1" of storm snow at the parking lot increasing to 10" at 5,500 feet. 6' of accumulated snow for the season up at the top. Really challenging conditions with fog, strong winds, and snow throughout the day. Crevasses on the Milk were not a big deal at all, the ones on the upper Raven were far more challenging. A few shooting cracks on the Milk Headwall, but generally stayed out of avy terrain. Several slides in the storm snow on the extremely steep terrain of goat mountain. This a a great early season tour, and rope and glacier travel refresher. Hoping to make this an annual tradition!

Hadn't noticed the difference in names. This makes more sense now. Perhaps Mike isn't bipolar after all.

^I also had missed the names and wondered why Mike had suddenly developed a fascination with sausages that look like wangs.

Thanks for the stoke. Making my first trip up to AK in April with a small crew. Not sure how to choose where to go in such a huge state, but I know we're renting an RV and planning on hitting a bunch of roadside delights - e.g., Turnagain, Hatcher, and Thompson passes, but I know Thompson will be overrun with the Tailgate AK shitshow. Anyhoo, stoked to come check out our mecca.
