Jeremy Jones - Higher, any other movies like this?
Just watched Higher the other night (and previously Deeper/Further). I really like this style of movie, ie not a machine gun highlight reel of skiporn. Not that there's anything wrong with skiporn. Are there any other movies like this where the filmmaker takes the time to document everything that goes into a couple of big ski mountaineering objectives or a big expedition? More in the vein of mountaineering/climbing films where often the entire film is just about a single ascent... ?

Sounds like you might like Supervention from Field Production. It also has a documentary style. It isn't anything like higher, but the superficial drama created in a lot of ski movies is stripped away. It's more like being on the trips with the guys. The beauty and imaging is the best in a ski movie ever to date. It's on par with national geographic at their best.

The latest epidodes of Faces of Dav. (Chris Davenports short series). Mica To Greenland http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/s...a+to+greenland, ill second Art of Flight too. I know there are more but can't think of them now ill check my collection at home. Pretty much any of the Sweetgrass Production movies to, like Valhalla, Solitare and Signature.

I guess you can interpret it that way. But what I intended to say, was that Supervention has a documentary style AND it's stripped from the superficial drama added to most ski movies. Given that OP doesn't want pure cliché ski-porn, I think Supervention would be worth checking out.

I thought "Let's Go Get Small" with Dave Treadway and Henrick Windstedt was really well done. Worth watching.

Mission Steeps and Mission Antartica are both badass. Another similar one came out recently called Mica To Greenland. All three can be searched for and viewed on the main site.
If you're down to explore other sports Stacy peralta makes a ton of great action sports docus, the best as far as exploring humans in that context IMO. Riding Giants is about big wave surfing as has a lot of the same build up to big single waves."We're in the eye of a shiticane here Julian, and Ricky's a low shit system!" - Jim Lahey, RIP

The Provo Bro's have been producing some cool shorts over the last few years. I've always enjoyed their stuff...

Found one just like Higher but with skiing, and a smaller budget. Really good adventure film though.
