I'm planning to ski Baldy ski area tomorrow. If you are planning to boot pack and want company, I would but up for Telegraph sticksplitman. I will put a pack and avi gear in truck. On black super bros, black jacket, orange pants tomorrow.

^ Nice, I'm thinking about doing that Sunday. Nights are warm enough now that maybe the boilerplate will soften up.

SW aspect of Telegraph was fun today. Boot toe penetration varied from only 1" to a few inches most places, so had to kick steps for my buddy in snowboard boots. Coverage was great, the ski down was fantastic. Creamy smooth outside of the shadows.

The NW chutes were firm and some had rockfall debris, too spicy for me in current condition.

I finally got out for some SoCal backcountry skiing last Saturday, March 11th. Joined sticksplitman for a bike up ACH to the base of Throop:

sticksplitman and his buddy continued up the road to the summer trail. I slapped on the crampons and booted the lookers left chute:

    Rendezvous at the summit:

Run #1 was fun, my POV video from the lower part:

sticksplitman enjoying the perfect spring conditions:

    His buddy doing the same:

POV of a short pitch of second time booting up:

    Lap #2:

POV from the lower chute on lap #2, really fun:

Melting fast, but should be good out there the next couple weekends. Seemed like north facing slopes with about 1 hour of sun on them skied the best. Hopefully we get some more snow and April is also good.

Considering Islip on Sunday from the upper Hwy 2 gate without bikes. Never been there, anyone have any recommendations or feel for coverage?

Or suggestions for somewhere else? Baldy Bowl is an option. Thinking BP in the trees on north aspects might be pretty icy, and the sun might be cooking the chutes.
