Some where at some point in some forum Laird said it about Garret's wave. Not saying it was any specific Laird, or even a Real Laird. But no other Laird piped up and said otherwise. While my post was just sarcastic and pointless, I have read a lot about how that wave is a mush burger as if that concept made much sense at all once you pass the 25 foot mark. From my limited experience, it does not. Anyway, I did not intend to unravel any panties.

    Meh...double overhead alaskan at best.

Gnarbar to the max. Way to save her and then to go back out and nab that beast with the wife and kids at home. Dude has a few screws loose. Burle is a fitting name. That is one angry looking ocean.

Laird says Carlos didn't make the wave. Carlos went straight and got crushed. Other folks out that day made the shoulder and kicked out, thus completing the wave.

Balls and props for being out there but the skiing analogy would be like claiming a stomp or skiing a line clean when in fact it was a hot tub or throwing a tomahawk in there, respectively.

Or perhaps "I just climbed this 5.15c! Only took a couple hangs."

    Dick-waving interview.

It's more like stomping the landing and then getting outrun by the avalanche.

I guess with all the technicalities we're getting into the type of argument like "Who has the skiing cliff-jumping record?"

The late Jamie Pierre poled into and plopped off a huge cliff, landed on his head, and had to get dug out. ~255'

Fred Syversen took a wrong turn and pointed it off a cliff at warp speed. ~300'

Fred detractors say since it wasn't intentional it shouldn't count. Neither were skied away from cleanly. Does intention/style matter or is it just height, pure and simple?

I am with Laird, if you don't ski/surf away, then it does not count as a made run. Hell, anyone can drop into anything if they have a death wish or just huge stones. Making it is what distinguishes a pro/gifted rider IMO.

Maybe not 100' waves. That being said, seeing some of the folks fade, make turns, stall, get barreled in "smaller" big waves like Jaws = style.
