My buddy held that job from 1998- '03 or so. He liked it, but quit to become a teacher. Knowing what teachers are paid, I would assume the Vail Daily job does not pay a bunch. Cool experience for a guy right outta school though.

My guess would be more than being a lifty, but less than a waiter who make decent tips.
Very high turnover at small papers because of sucky pay and long hours. The photographer who gets that job may only have to work 32 hours, but that will be spread out into evenings, weekends, etc so they can cover various events.
But anyone starting out in the business needs to put in some time in the trenches before they can move up to a bigger publication. That's what leads to the high turnover - people only work long enough to get experience and leave as soon as they find a better job.
Then they can be woefully underpaid at a big paper!

Newspaper photography is not a growth field. Hell, newspapers are dying. except for the ones who adapt to online, so I'd learn as much as I could on this job about video, and integrating it into the web.
